Aussies don't drug their Canadian athletes, though....just let them run online porn empires.

Incidentally, Begg-Smith's "haul" at this Games already outweighs the entire Winter Olympics haul of Australian athletes from 1928 to 1994!!!!! Way to go dude!!!!!

People complaining about him are anal....
If they're so high-minded about dress codes, how the hell did they permit those awful speed skating suits to be used?
Japanese just like having someone to pick on and Kokubo is copping it because he's not your everyday type of Taro.

It's probably also that given the recent Asashoryu scandal, and the shitstorm surrounding that, the J-press wants to be seen as fair, and thus took a swing at one of their own soldiers marching to a different drum...

Don't worry. Kokubo-kun will come out as the biggest winner in these Olympic Games, with medal or not. All publicity is good publicity.

Well that's a silver and a bronze for Japan in the 500 meter speed skate (Nagashima and Kato).

The chest-thumping this morning is deafening.

It's interesting to note that many of the media reports fail to mention who won the gold ... guess it doesn't matter.

Yeah, the first and second losers are much more important than the winner. If they're Japanese, anyway. (Just looked it up, looks like they got beaten by a Korean, guess that explains the lack of mention!)

I read a Japanese press report citing a Sports Illustrated piece on medal projections. Japan was tipped to win a total of four medals, with no golds. I'm not sure which survey they were looking at but this one tipped Nagashima for a silver while this one tipped Kato for the same. There are probably other projections out there too but the first one tips Mao Asada (figure skating) and Sayuri Yoshii (track) for silvers and the second names Asada for silver and sloppy-dresser Kokubo (half-pipe) for bronze.

Japanese luger disqualified for showing up over weight.

(Yahoo News)
This is a touchy subject. Japan's Aya Yasuda has been disqualified from the women's luge event Tuesday for being over weight.

Not "overweight." At 132 pounds, Yasuda is the ideal size for luging. It's her equipment that weighs too much.

Because of a miscalculation, Yasuda brought too much ballast with her to weigh-ins for Tuesday's competition. Lugers are allowed 13.1 kg of "additional weight." Yasuda brought 13.3.

Don't be bagging on the moppers. When it's osouji time, you know you want them around. They can get the stains on the ceiling(?) out like a motherfucker.

Another disqualification.

AP: Japanese slider disqualified from skeleton race
Japan's Nozomi Komuro has been disqualified from the Olympic women's skeleton competition because her sled was not compliant with international rules. Komuro's sled lacked "the requested ... control sticker" mandated by the International Federation of Bobsleigh and Tobogganing. The sticker was found to be missing in a standard sled-check 35 minutes before the competition was to begin. The FIBT said Japanese team officials never presented the sled for inspection, at which time it likely would have received the approved sticker. Inspections have been offered daily at the Olympics, and most sleds obtained the sticker during the World Cup season.

How terribly disappointing this must have been for Komuro.

Unless some details are missing this sounds like a case of gross incompetence. Someone is going to take some shit ... possibly after the buck has been passed multiple times.

"But I thought you ...", "no, you were supposed to ...", "but Mr. Takahashi said ...", "nobody told me ...",
etc., an infinitum.

Bummer.

I don't understand why you need a sticker on your skeleton sled. I mean these guys try to squeeze as much advantage out of their equipment as possible by reducing drags. Removing the sticker will, theoretically even though not by much, shave some time off. Does someone have the answer to this?
