I just thought it was funny how the Japanese page only shows Japanese medals (they're in 18th place), and only links to articles about Japanese athletes, whereas the English Yahoo page shows multiple nations, references athletes from multiple nations, and links to multiple sports.

Yahoo Japan (and much of the J-media in general) only report medals won by Japanese athletes. Apparently they're not interested in anyone else. Where other medalists are mentioned it is with the utmost brevity. Of course the media in other countries are mostly interested in medals won by their own athletes, but at least they usually present the entire picture rather than excluding/marginalizing everyone else.

This type of thing came up in another thread as well, in the case where Nagashima and Kato won the silver and bronze in the 500-meter speed skating. The gold was taken by Korea, but I can't remember seeing one report on the tube that mentioned that apparently insignificant detail.

I think people are being a bit harsh here. Go to any country and the mainstream media coverage will almost invariably focus on the performances of their own athletes. (Case in point, Australia...Read their coverage and you would assume that only Ozzies are competing in Vancouver, even though people from Down Under seem to have Downs Syndrome when it comes to the Winter Olympics. Who gives a fuck about who finishes 67th in the freestyle moguls? Yet, that's the focus of their coverage.)
I don't think the bias in coverage is a Japanese-thing as opposed to a media-thing. The media is simply catering to the people who pay for it, whatever the country.

At work I was trying to get Olympic news on the keitai YahooJapan and it was almost exclusively news on Japanese athletes. They didn't even mention the names of the FGs who won medals.
