lol @ Ladies 3000 m Relay
Results: China - gold. Canada - silver. USA - bronze. Korea - DSQ.

Korea got disqualified for blocking/bumping/pushing the Chinese skaters.

Lotsa hate being poured out on the little real time facebook status updater thing. Vancouver Olympic Site

Reminds me of the World Baseball Classic, when Korea lost and fans scrambled online to start the referee bashing, etc etc.. bla bla bla.

Same as the prior Olympic dqs. Poor Korea. The whole world is after them. It was obviously the fault of China and the US and don't forget Canada for even holding the games.....

Oh yes, poor Korea. I feel so sorry for them all the time. I think the sorriest I felt for them was when they bribed their way past Spain and Italy in the 2002 World Cup. I always wonder why they are so quiet about that outrage against sportsmanship.

Or for that matter how they used Samsung to almost bribe their way into winning these Olympics.

Well that's that for the women's figure skating:

Yuna Kim ... Gold
Mao Asada ... Silver
Joannie Rochette ... Bronze
----------
Nagasu Mirai (US) in fourth place.
Ando Miki in fifth place.

So, no gold at all for Japan.
Still, having figure-skating medalists in two consecutive olympics is pretty impressive.

Mr. Kim...that could be one of 30 million Koreans. That sh*t is more common than a white guy called Mr. Smith.

I happened to catch a recap on the tube afterward, and they played Asada's entire routine (complete with breathless praise from the talking heads), followed by about 5 sec. of Kim's routine - the gold medal winner, then end of story. Uh, hello, what about the bronze medal winner, Rochette? And of course not a word about Canada's women taking the gold in ice hockey.
I know I should be used to it after all these years, but I keep hoping to see a bit more of the Olympics than endless rebroadcasts of Japanese skaters that won, or came within 10 places of winning, and maybe a skier or two.

The correct Old Korean saying applicable here, is that "If you throw a rock off Namsan, you hit a person named Lee, Pak, or Kim," or words to that affect....

I read somewhere that some two thirds of the Korean population is named Park, Kim, or Lee.

Parochial, hypernationalistic Olympics coverage seems to be the East Asian norm, but the J-media is really doing a disservice to the people here in so assiduously ignoring the achievements of the Chinese and Koreans. As a result of the Cone of Olympics Silence imposed by the J-media, the Japanese find themselves all the more blindsided when they get their asses kicked in non-Olympic venues. You read in the J-media about Korean companies exiting the J-market, for example, without being told that they're cleaning the clock of J, Inc., in the US and other big export markets.

You think in Canada there is a word about Kim Yu-na or Asada? In their coverage on CTV they hardly show anyone other than Canadians. It's the same shit in every country so get off your fucking Japan bashing high horse.

What colour is the sky in your Canada?

Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

Really. You must be looking at a different CTV then.
I see two stories about Canadian athletes and four about foreign athletes on the following CTV site.

Looks like BS1 will have the Canada/US Gold Hockey game on live from 5:10am Japan time tomorrow morning.

Debating if I am going to get up and watch it or not. I want to see it but for someone who rarely crawls outa bed before nine 5am is crazy early...

Ice hockey fans in Japan are kind of like Grateful Dead fans. There aren't many, but they are hardcore. The skill level is quite high for the number of people who play. There is no such thing as a 'hockey season' for a lot of players, and they play all year round if the nearby rinks are open. Two hour drives to rinks aren't unheard of either.

With youth teams there isn't the division between less serious "house league" and the more serious "travel teams". All the kids teams here are more like travel teams.

My Canadian friend is supposed to be coming over to watch it. It will be interesting to see if he makes it in time. I doubt I would. I set my cell phone to go off about four times so hopefully I will make it.
