GOLD!!!

Postby BigInJapan » Mon Mar 01, 2010 8:23 am

Canada gets the gold!!! 3-2 in overtime, what a great game!
A last minute shot by the US in the 3rd period tied it 2-2, then Crosby got the final goal for Canada in OT - and the crowd went wild!

awesome game!

Postby james » Mon Mar 01, 2010 9:52 am

glad i got up for it! the americans also played really well, no two ways about it and put up a good fight - i felt it was an evenly matched game. also to their credit, miller made some really, really good saves - just one not enough ;)

continuing on the credit where credit is due, i think nhk's olympic coverage this year was *much* better than in the past but i'd have preferred to watch the games without the tsunami map taking up the bottom right of the screen. an occasional instead of continuous display would have sufficed.

Congratulations to the Canadians...I know how much it means to you guys.
Commiserations to the Americans.
Thanks to both teams for such a tremendous game!

Really enjoying the NHK "interpreters" explaining things to the local TV audience...:p From Shatner's Straights of Juan de Fuca joke, to the Mikey J. Fox gold medal jackpot bit, they are lost in the woods.:p

We can do worse than that! How about Nickelback and Avril Lavigne?!:-o

Here's hoping for an Alannis nip slip...

It was at that, but I don't think any hockey team in the world could have with-stood the onslaught of the Canuckapuckers today! They were definitely at the highest. Home for their own Olympics, needing the gold to set records, needing revenge against a team that had beat them into embarrassment on home ice in the prelims, they really had a lot of incentive going for them and they were certainly up to it. They came in high and played outstanding hockey. Congrats are definitely in order for a great team and a well played game.

I noticed that and couldn't believe it. It was definitely not the old NHK we have all come to love and admire. Must have been a part time staff on for the last two weeks that got overlooked by management. I'm sure they won't let this ruin their reputation and will jump right back into the normal shit-filled broadcasting in the immediate future....

Congrats to Canada. They deserve the gold. We Yanks put up a good fight, though, and had a shot on goal a little bit before Crosby scored. Tying the game in the last seconds of regulation time was awesome, too. I kind of thought it would be Russia and Canada in the finals. That is if it was possible with the way the teams were placed in their groups.
Slovakia deserves some praise as a surprise of the tournament. They beat Russia but couldn't hold onto their lead against the Finns in the bronze medal game. And what, did Ovechkin miss about 3 penalty shots?!
I hope Rogain, er Rogge, doesn't get rid of women's hockey. It's not like they have their own NHL.

yeah, my father-in-law and the kids learned some new english when that goal went in with 24.4 seconds remaining. it was a very close game and certainly could have gone the other way.

kanpai to all athletes for giving it their best.

i'm not much of a beer drinker so i can't say this first hand, but it seems that on either side of the 49th, the best to be had is being produced by the microbreweries.

I think that goes for more than just the countries either side of the 49th.
I'm not much of a beer drinker anymore, either...thanks to Molson, Moosehead, Budweiser and Fosters.

Korea and Japan have had tumultous relations throughout history, and this national rivalry was likely to be reheated during the recent figure skating competition between South Korean skater Yu-Na Kim and Japanese skater Mao Asada at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

And lo and behold, Japanese BBS 2ch suffered a massive cyber attack on March 1 from what was later identified as Korean web users. Timed to coincide with the March 1 national holiday celebrating Korea's 1919 rebellion against its colonial overlord Japan, Korean netizens banded together to silence 2ch after a thread on the site offered comments suggesting that Kim had bribed the judges. A clip from NTV claiming that Mao should have had a higher score also is believed to have fueled the Korean anger.
