I think it is better than in the past, and the online streaming was good too.

I would have liked to be able to listen to the Canadian hockey announcers for the gold medal game but I imagine licensing issues prevent that from happening. It's not like understanding the Japanese was tough, but it would have been nice in English (ie bilingual).

It's not quite that bad, at least the Japanese announcers seemed to actually be enjoying the game! The English sumo announcers always sound half asleep...

as much as i'd have preferred to watch in english, the announcers seemed ok and the language isn't much of an issue. not like they're up there discussing neuroscience or string theory. besides, it could've been worse - it could've been in french. ;)

For me, the broadcast & announcers really helps set the mood of the game. How much crowd noise allowed through and how they call the play-by-play. For me, CBC's Hockey Night in Canada was the gold standard. The CTV Olympic coverage was good, and the NBC crew was a notch below.

I have enjoyed the surprised locals calling hockey "kakutogi"!

I'm with you all the way Mike, but I certainly wouldn't give the NBC the marks high enough to mention them in the the same paragraph as CBC. I've only seen clips of NBC coverage and all have been bad.

I think they had some of the J-pro hockey callers working for the Japan side which did give them a better coverage then the normal Nippon, Nippon, Nippon announcers. Those guys know hockey and can a least tell a player from the net....
