it's Japan, everyone has to do it at the exact same time. Don't want to much individuality causing society to collapse.

I guess some people want to dedicate their entire week on hanami. It's a perfect excuse to be constantly inebriated for a week.

But on his defense, I can see if the blossom peaked on a weekday and that it was going to rain on that weekend.

denmark does it. and i hate it. instead of just one week of everyone being gone, it's two weeks of only being half staffed. and then it takes another two weeks after the holidays are done for everyone to figure out what got done and what didn't.

i think it would be a horrible idea for japan. it was bad enough to have all the tourists cram into osaka-jo for one weekend, this would be three weekends of it.

The only people who count when changes of this nature are contemplated are farmers and fogies. Farmers will object to to as it potentially interferes with their rice planting season. Fogies object to it because it means the elimination of their beloved 'Children's Day'.

I'm an old fogy.
Like most old fogies I find children offensive, so I've no qualms about doing away with a special day to celebrate them.

You may be fogy and that in itself gives you special privileges such as the ability to drive at 20 kph with your left hand turn continuously on and complaining about the post office but as a Japanese fogy you are expected to do more. Making you children-in-laws life a living hell, public urination and wandering around the neighborhood in your long johns are part and parcel of the role. And as such one of the duties of incontinent crowd is to monopolize their grandchildrens' time on Childrens Day. Besides Showa Day was especially named to cater to them.
