Air Worshipping at a Virtual Kiyomizu Temple

I think everybody needs to follow the link below. Click "enter" on the main page and then click the arrow below "What is Air Worshipping?" to start a flash audio & visual clip with English subtitles:

http://air-sampai.jp/

Once the introduction has finished, click the arrow right at the bottom of the screen, in the middle. You'll then start on a virtual tour of Kyoto's Kiyomizu Temple. To join in, the narrator will ask you to do some squats in front of your PC to match the experience of climbing up the steps. The narration and introduction are supposed to be tongue-in-cheek even though the site is a genuine effort to give a tour of the temple. Occasionally, you'll need to click the screen to move on such as when you are asked to wash your hands. At the end of the tour you'll be prompted to click on to the "options" menu which will take you to images of other parts of the temple grounds

Kiyomizudera is an amazing temple, my favorite place in Kyoto.
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Asahi: 'Air worshipping' takes off for Kyoto's shrines, temples
The introductory instructions are simple: Bow to your computer, refrain from smoking and put your pens out of reach to remove the temptation of drawing graffiti. And get your money ready. You are now ready to enter the new world of "air worshipping." A website called "Air Sampai" (air worshipping) that enables people to experience worshipping at famous shrines and temples in Kyoto without leaving their homes has gained in popularity.

The website, operated by Kansai Multimedia Service Co., based in Osaka's Kita Ward, uses real images to give viewers the experience of walking through the sites in Kyoto. It also provides instructions on how to "show off your sophisticated manner." Shrines and temples cooperating in the project hope the online experience will lead to an increase in tourism and revitalize the local economy. The verbal explanations are in Japanese, but the site features English subtitles.

The popularity of the website, which currently receives about 60,000 hits a month, is attributed mainly to its lighthearted approach to the very serious practice of worshipping. For example, in the "trip" to Kiyomizudera temple in Higashiyama Ward, viewers are instructed to squat several times to experience the strain of climbing the stairs. The site also warns viewers that making a "flabbergasting wish" out loud will make them look silly. And when donating money at Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine in Fushimi Ward, the site reminds viewers that the more they offer, the "cooler" they are. "We wanted to make the website a place that contains a cheerful atmosphere instead of one that just explains how to worship," said Haruki Mori, 38, who is in charge of the project. The word "air" in the name of the website is a play on the term "air guitar."

In October last year, the first stage of the project--the visit to Kiyomizudera temple--was made available. Soon, information about "Air Sampai" spread through blogs and Twitter. In January this year, the second stage of the project--a trip to Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine--became available. Kansai Multimedia Service is considering increasing the number of temples and shrines on the website and providing explanations in other languages. It may also make the website available on mobile phones. "We hope that, with air worshipping as a start, many tourists will actually visit Kyoto to worship," an official of a temple said.

Just went there yesterday, it was very nice, and very long.
I am not really sure where I am going, I just hope that when I get there, I can sit down because I am sure my feet will be tired.

Well that didn't take too long for the reaction I was expecting.
