Asahi: Japan-EU haiku contest to be held
The Foreign Ministry and the European Union are accepting entries for an English-language haiku contest.

Entries must be unpublished haiku with reference to Japan and Europe, preferably in a three-line format. For this contest, seasonal words are not required.

Only Japanese and EU nationals living in Japan or EU member countries may apply. One submission per person. Submission deadline is April 18.

The winner will be announced at a joint news conference at the 19th Japan-EU Summit meeting scheduled in Tokyo.

The winner will receive a round-trip ticket to Matsuyama--the home of modern haiku--and accommodations at the Dogo Onsen hot spring resort.

Judges will be officials of the Foreign Ministry, the EU, the Matsuyama city government and David McMurray, the haiku columnist of The Asahi Shimbun's English edition. The contest is partly sponsored by The Asahi Shimbun.

Visit here for details and to download an entry form. Fill it out and e-mail it to (haikucontest@mofa.go.jp).
