Yeah... I don't know who came up with that one... And though the logo is nice, what a cliche. T_T

Well, here's to a bit of truth in advertising anyway! Japan actually welcoming foreign tourists was laughable from the start -- they want the money but they'd just as soon the smelly barbarians themselves stayed home.

"Endless Discovery" starts with the discovery of just how welcome you really are as you queue up to have your fingerprints and photo taken like the criminal you certainly must be.

New logo and English phrase... Jpn Gov's well spent millions...

Why aren't they coming ? I know - it's the logo !

Nice logo. I think I understand the hidden meaning too!

Let's see, hinomaru with sakura flowers and petals. Very seasonal!
But wait ... sakura flowers bloom for about a week or ten days once a year, and are so fragile that a good wind or rain will prematurely put an end to the whole show.

Uh-oh ...

Perhaps inadvertently - I think you have coined a more fitting phrase for the logo.

I still think the best tourism slogan for this cuntry would be:
"Great Pussy and it Loves White Guys"
Put that into practice and I could imagine Japan racking up some real tourist numbers.

I bet you all your English speaking countries' logos and slogans are very bright ideas right? But Japan's can't be.

The fact is, you bozos, this is a very nice logo plus the Yokoso campaign did not work since most foreigners would not know what Yokoso means. I hope this campaign works at attracting high-end travellers which is the market this logo is after.

Lurker, fuck-off. Many countries fingerprint and photgraph visitors, not just Japan. Oh, wait, I forgot, the country that started all this speaks English, so they, and only them, must be right.

Mutantfrog Travelogue has suggested that a foreign ad agency may have been responsible for the change in the right direction...

Just as a bit of speculation, some of you might remember that the DPJ has relied on American firms for PR (Fleishman-Hillard in 2005 and possibly today), while the LDP and bureaucracy often relied on domestic firms (Prap Japan in 2005, ad giant Dentsu in 2009). Could that have had made a difference?

Nope, they are no more right than Japan and I haven't been to the US since they started with that bullshit. If I hadn't already been living in Japan I wouldn't have come here either.

It's sure anodyne. There must be thousands of tropical resorts and SE Asian airlines with more-or-less the same logo. But at least it's better than seeing Japan's Northern Territories fetish depicted everywhere.* That shitty 60s-style rusted-out sign in front of the Yaesu Central Entrance of Tokyo Station will do fine.

Sitting through the entrance ceremony at my school I was thinking of what would be a good slogan and I think I came up with the most accurate one,

JAPAN: Endless Contradictions
I am not really sure where I am going, I just hope that when I get there, I can sit down because I am sure my feet will be tired.
