Amy Yamada had lived Rions Mansion in my neighboring Akishima city with her black husband for a long while.

That may have been true at one time Take, but I think we are seeing a major change to that these days...

As for Akishima, in the days after the war, running up to the late sixties and early seventies, black and white drinking areas were segregated for the US bases. As I'm sure Take will recall, the two main bar areas for black service members for Tachikawa AB (the main base in that area at the time) was the Nishi Tachikawa eki area and Akishima eki area. Akishima bar area had built up during the days of the old Showa Air Station on the other side of the station. These bar areas eventually disappeared with command ordered intergration around the bases and the consolidation and moving of HQ5AF-USFJ to Yokota AB, which resulted in the closure Tachikawa AB (now Showa Koen and the Eastern Region HQs of the JGSDF) and Fuchu AS (now JASDF ADHQS.)

So in a nutshell, the areas where the girls of those earlier time frames could go to meet a black serviceman (pun intended) were extremely limited and now as opposed to then, it is more in vogue to latch on to a brother and go to soul bars.

In the vicinity of the bases (which is probably a healthy minority), the women who are "typically" seen with black men exhibit different dress and attitude than you would "typically" see with white or hispanic men. Having been brought to a "black" club by some of my black friends, I didn't see anything to change this view.
While on shore patrol years back, I'd witnessed on more than one occasion in a bar district where a drunk man takes notice in a JN walking by to be told by his buddies "That's cracker shit" or "She's too dark for you" etc. Spend enough time in the bar district outside a base and most of the time you can figure out which way she leans before you talk to her.....sad as that may be...
