Are them barbwires allowed ?

Postby Coligny » Sun Apr 18, 2010 2:10 pm

Stupid question as usual but are they allowed for private use ? The back of the clinic face a parking lot, the wall is low and we have 50cm of grass there. The windows don't have safety grids/bars/whatever that's where the kitchen is and mominlaw often leave the windows open or unlocked... Some barbs would make me feel better... since claymore mines are definately out because of the huge cat population...

if ur gonna use barb wires, might as well put up a round of broken glass bottles/shards of glass cemented into the top of the wall. used to see it everywhere back home. pretty damn effective, and it might scare the hell outta anyone thinking about coming in. :p

don't hate. masturbate.

I can't s'plain well... but the wall is only 30 cm with huge windowy gaps closed by old saggy wiremesh... so can't put borked glass...

No problem. In Karuizawa I see it used as a fence around ordinary gardens all the time.

Yes but isn't that barb wire meant for deer in Karuizawa, not people?

In my last apartment, barbed wire was wound around the drain pipes to stop FG's from robbing the upstairs apartments. (All the FG's lived on the 1st floor)

So I have seen it around so wouldn't know why you couldn't use it too.

But an open window is surely an invitation for somebody who was criminally inclined to go out and buy a 100yen set of wire cutters.

Barb wire is of course permissable in Japan but there are certain regulations that you should aware of. First, barb wire is not meant to protect your property, it is merely there to serve as an uglifier. Therefore it should only adorn old dilapidated housing which has nothing of value in it. Barb wire also helps you locate the headquarters of the local Yakuza boss as they are almost certain to have a very impressive display of it. And like in other countries paranoids can't get enough of the stuff. So there you have it -barb wire is for the paranoids, criminals and the senile.

Just have to twist my justification enough to make dadinlaw agree with it... Things are sometimes run like in Hogan's Heroes... with him as a near perfect Colonel Klink...

Have you ever considered electric fencing? They can run on batteries or solar or just plain 'ol mains AC. No need for the ugly barbed wire, just run a few slim black wires around the wall, and a fault checker as well (in case someone cuts the wire) and you're good to go. It will cost something like $100 - $275 depending on the perimeter/size of the land. I got an estimate for a 500 sq ft. piece of land, 3 strands on solar power for $247.34 but Y.M.M.V.

Personally, after a break-in last year, i installed a 3-strand system around our corner lot mansion, no more tanuki problems or chinese thieves. (This I only know cause they caught the gang later on in Chiba).

Above is a how-to/best practices if you are interested.
