Until now most reporting about the new government has consisted of a huge distraction of attention from what matters for the future of all Japanese, settling instead for the routine scandal mongering that serves no one.

We may blame this on ingrained habits.

I heard that not only commercialism is to blame for the the current state of reporting but also since privacy laws have become strict in Japan in-depth reporting has become more difficult so reporters turn to sensationalism. Interesting to see who those privacy laws were actually made for.

It is funny that he fails to mention the bainful influence that the DPJ coalition partners particularly Kamei have on public opinion. My feeling is that Hatayama has been one of the weakest Prime Ministers since Murayama, who in his day destroyed what was left of the crediablity of the SDP. By allowing small political parties veto power over almost everything and not acting ruthlessly towards them when demand too much, they effectively have undermined themselves.

My feeling is that the DPJ is doomed if it continues to keep their coalition partners who are like turds in an unflushed toilet. They would be way better off to make a deal with Komeito who broadly shares many of the same goals rather than Kamei and the SDP who clearly do not.

Very well stated.
"If there's a river, we'll dam it, and if there's a tree, we'll ram it - 'cause we Japanese are talkin' progress!"
