I had an interesting discussion today about the iPhone, and it got me wondering; I have seen unlocked versions (since Softbank doesnt have exclusivity), but what about the the pake-hodai thing? For instance, if I were to shove a Docomo SIM into the iPhone and have signed up for pake-hodai, does it register the connection as the Mopera/i-Mode connection rate or will I be charged the extra 8,000+ yen on top of the 5,000yen pake-hodai rate for connecting the phone to the internet in a way not authorised by Docomo?

Are there any workarounds for making the iPhone work 100% with Docomo?

AFAIK there is no such site. Just go to fuckedgaijin.com on your iPhone, it works fine.

There was one about a hundred years ago for viewing on Japanese keitai browsers. But when the site was updated, it was a pain in the butt to maintain for the 3 people who used it so it was scrapped.

But FG will work fine on Mobile Safari. If you want to add smilies, I have a little app that can help. :fresse:

Actually if you have an iPhone, I have a few apps that you might like - am happy to swap promo codes for good reviews.

As others have said, the FG forum works ok on the iPhone. I made all my posts from Oct 26 to Nov 26 via my iTouch---It's not all that bad.

I've got a plan to create apps. I'm in the process of starting my own company. It will be a lot easier to proceed once I get this government job.

please to be explaining the connection between each of the three sentences you've written, as i fail to find any.

then again, writing random stuff is fun. i've got a plan to bring the mobile phone back to what it was introduced as, something to make phone calls on. phone calls only. my hedge fund is going very well. once i'm elected president, i'll own everything so i won't have to proceed with anything. i'll just snap my fingers.

Ok Cykachka. I'll explain. I'm making plans. It takes money to put those plans into action. The amount I'll be making at the new job will make putting those plans into actions a lot easier.

Looks like Steve wants his toy back. If this isn't an admission of a bona fide SNAFU, I don't know what is.

Hmmm....I wonder if HTC thought of sending such a vaguely worded letter like this...The least the could have done is put a serial number in the request.

Looks like a fake, since the letter does not contain any specific sender contact info in the text (like a phone number or extension to their office) and any specific info about the phone (like the IMEI number) that would validate the sender as its owner. That text in the bottom right appears to only have generic company info you can find in any Apple brochure, that is not specific to any individual or department.

Personally, after opening the stolen device and documenting it online, Gizmondo is screwed until they can get the legitimate owner to sign off on a release.

Quite disappointing that they did not figure out the native LCD resolution. I'm hoping for XGA [1024x768] so that it can run iPad apps.

Apple has nothing to gain at this point by going after Gizmodo. It would create a PR nightmare for them with no upside at all.

XGA is a 4:3 standard and I can't see Apple putting a 4:3 screen into a device the shape/size of an iPhone. If they keep the same 3:2 format of the current phone it would be a 1152x768 screen. Possible I suppose but it seems like overkill for such a small display.

In reading the various tech sites, I love all the 'apple totally planned this to get everyone talking about the new iphone' comments from the fanboys who can't imagine (or can't stand the thought of living in) a world where Apple loses control like this....Yeah, like the iphone has ever had a problem getting attention or notice by bloggers or the media.

I was completely wrong on this, as it turns out that letter was legit, and Gizmodo has since official returned the iPhone prototype to Apple, as reported by one of Canada's national newspapers: http://network.nationalpost.com/NP/blogs/fpposted/archive/2010/04/20/fp-tech-desk-apple-wants-gizmodo-to-return-missing-iphone.aspx

Well the iPad which has been released in the US does have a native XGA resolution, so Apple is willing to have devices with a 4:3 screen. Keep in mind that pixels aren't always completely square, although I do prefer square pixels.

It makes far more sense to use the iPad XGA resolution, then to force developers to create a 3rd resolution (iPhone/iTouch ~ HVGA, iPad ~ XGA, iPhoneHD ~ ???) for their apps. Especially when many developers are still busy modifying their existing iPhone apps to the iPad's XGA resolution.

Then again what Apple does, does not always make sense or is in their best interest. Like when they put a huge scare in traditional newspapers with relying on the iPhone & iPad as a distribution medium, by censoring the Pulitzer winning cartoonist Mark Fiore.

Lufthansa offers free flight to iPhone engineer

Fri April 23, 2010
Promotional stunt exploits lost iPhone prototype

German airline Lufthansa is offering a free flight to Germany for Gray Powell, the Apple engineer who accidentally left a prototype iPhone behind at a German-themed bar in California. Specifically Powell is being offered a business-class flight to Munich, where Lufthansa has just opened a beer lounge. "I recently read in the news that you lost a very special phone at a German beer bar in California," reads a letter from the airline's Americas marketing director, Nicola Lange.

"At Lufthansa we also noted with great interest your passion for German beer and culture," the letter continues. "We thought you could use a break soon -- and therefore would like to offer you complimentary business class transportation to Munich, where you can literally pick up where you last left off."

It's not known if Powell has agreed to the trip, though a Lufthansa spokesman says the engineer has dropped hints to people he knows. The public is also in the dark as to whether he still works with Apple. Company CEO Steve Jobs is believed to personally monitor people who take prototypes off-campus, and a major security breach like the iPhone leak could potentially lead to a quick firing. So far it is thought that Powell still has his job, given no rumors to the contrary.
