Interesting. Thanks for that.

The death penalty is appropriate for environmental activists? Talk about stretching things all out of proportion. And here I was thinking that the Sea Shepherd people had the most extreme views.

Of course none of this will probably even cause a blip on the J-media.

I think the death penalty is for the petty theft.

Program is just a little one sided. The guy "secured it as evidence"?
I like how they spend all this time in the program talking about their views and how they're just trying to stop corruption, but totally gloss over precisely how this guy obtained their prized evidence.
I can't see how it could be anything but theft.
Did they seriously think they'd get a pat on the back for stealing some guy's takkyubin package?

If they wanted their evidence they should have done a little more planning and thought about what happens when you try to present something as evidence which was taken illegally by a private citizen in the first place.
Wouldn't surprise me if the case against the whalers was dropped for that exact reason - is stolen property admissable as evidence here?

Yeah, a court of law usually love to focus on technicality in order to forget the big picture. Public opinion is usually more aboot mob rules... Trouble is with these whaling stuff... everybody seems to be as wrong as possible, japanese ignoring convention and being their usual hypocrites "save the earth, ecopoint and drive a prius" but fuck the whales... While activists are on the edge of being high sea pirates...

Its the kind of problem you solve with a calculated accidents. Russian destroyer believing of an underway sneak attack sinking a whaling ship in the middle of the night in international waters... repeatedly... Amurikin sub colliding... won't be the first time after all... Bad luck nobody really care when the cameras are off...

Regardless of whether it's whales or anything else - there's theft of public property. The guys on the whaling side of things don't want to admit it - because it's related to whales.

Then again, misuse of public property/funds doesn't happen anywhere else, so....

hang on a minute.

Just slip Sea Sheppard word that the Japanese are conducting major stealth whaling operations in the waters just off the coast of North Korea and if they hurry up, they can catch them red handed.

That should keep them busy for awhile......

I though it was private property as it was a gift to an individual rather than public property like the hachiko statue...

Hmm ... interesting point. If it can be proven that the whale meat was "misappropriated" in the first place, can the Tokyo Two legally be accused of theft? Would that be the crime of "stealing stolen property and turning it in?" I guess there's no getting around the trespassing charge though.

Apparently the court has already said it's OK if crew members take home "souvenirs," which I guess twenty-something kilograms of whale meat could be considered at a stretch, but if that was just one box of many totaling hundreds of kilograms, as one of the ex-whaler whistle-blowers suggested, then the situation should be investigated a little more closely (although it probably won't be).

Since this is a government "research vessel" doesn't it mean any meat they get is government owned ?

As far as I can see - it's the local member turning a blind eye for possible future votes.

Still this report does NOT explain the reason why human must not eat only whale meat or why only killing whale is cruel.

Just another hindsight was added.

So no need for Japanese to quit whaling, needless to say.

By the way, boyne and Taro Toporific never try commenting on controversy problems like whaling or Nanjin Masscre.
They are opportunists.

Thats it.

IWC's shame: Japan's whale slaughter - CNN article

Postby BigInJapan » Wed Jun 30, 2010 9:54 am

The "Tokyo Two" made it onto CNN.
And I see that the "misappropriated" whale meat is now referred to as being "intercepted" by Greenpeace...

The homes of Greenpeace office and staff members were raided. Seventy-five police officers were deployed to handcuff two peaceful activists. We were held without charge for 23 days; questioned for up to 10 hours a day while tied to chairs and without a lawyer present.

I note that CNN being as responsible as ever, end the piece with a nice safe caveat:
".....The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of Junichi Sato....."

Sure ain't spilling any blame over on CNN, now are we.....

Ya know what. If J-police nabbed me for some bullshit, I'd talk about their mothers so bad, they'd commit seppuku.
