How long do work visa proceedings take?

Postby Crispy » Tue Aug 12, 2003 2:45 am

I am currently in the US with no kind of Japan visa, applying for any ESL job that doesn't require me to be in country. If I did get picked up by one of them, how long would I expect to remain in the US, doing or waiting for visa stuff? It took over a month to do the stuff for a student visa, I only assume work visas take even more time...

That sounds about right. A Working Holiday Visa takes 6-7 weeks in Canada and UK.
Check out what I think you gaijins should be doing when you get to Japan at http://www.tokyoessentials.com ! Cum on, DO IT, I know you want to...

I waited about 6-8 weeks a few years ago. You need the certificate of eligibility to arrive from your employer. You take this with your passport to your friendly neighbourhood Japanese consulate and the visa sticker takes overnight.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. An interesting job opportunity suddenly appeared today that is making me think less about ESL (at Nintendo of America in their localization department), so maybe it will be moot for now.
