No Miyazaki gyu for you - come back 7 years!

Postby kagemusha » Fri May 28, 2010 10:06 pm

A guy from the ken-chou told me yesterday that foreigners are responsible for the outbreak of the foot and mouth disease in Miyazaki.
I guess now even the cows in Japan are using the old fg from roppongi to save their hide.
My one regret in life is that I am not someone else.

Sounds like something we could blame on Greji.

I gave blood a few times when I was in Japan - but the last time I got turned down when they found out I was English - due to mad cow disease (no comments please) they declined my blood donation...

The truth is; it was American beef that was purposely carried in by some of the military via Okinawa to purposely infiltrate and bypass and taint the Japanese agriculture, embarrass and throw off the safety inspectors as payback for Okinawa making such a big ruckus about relocating them. That is THE only this can possibly happen.

When I was in Japanese school my teacher (a Japanese lady) told the class that she wasn't allowed to give blood because she ate beef on a trip to England a couple of decades ago.

The US Red Cross has a similar rule: over 3 months cumulative in the UK between 1980 and 1996, and your blood is no longer acceptable. Restrictions for are in place for travel to the rest of Western Europe for the same reason, but the cumulative time ranges from 6 months to 5 years.

SIGH. Yes he is right, sort of. It is probable that the source of the foot and mouth disease is the sand from the Gobi desert, which is why it is Miyazaki getting it and not points east. As I recall from the outbreak foot and mouth in England some years ago (Mulboyne would know when) the cause was linked to an unusual wind pattern the blew Sahara dust across England. I suppose if you wanted to blame homadic herdmen of the steepes who lived there 1500 years ago you are probably correct.

Truth of the matter is "Hoof and Mouth" disease is not all that uncommon in cattle country.

Because it is not all that uncommon, in many areas in the Argentina, Australia and the USA, where huge stock farms exist, it goes unreported. This is because if it is reported to the government and the government steps in, mass wholesale slaughter of all cattle in the entire area and its surrounds will occur.

Most stock areas will have their local vet come in and diagnose the disease. The ranchers/farmers then take it upon themselves to conduct a quarantine and it will remain in effect until their vets give them a clean bill of health. Then, they will personally absorb the cost of any cattle that die without claiming any insurance, or subsidies from the government.

When the disease runs its course, they will at least have cattle remaining. If they report it to the government and the government steps in, they will lose all their cattle and receive only a small stipend, if that.

These local vets are technically required to report to the government any such outbreak, but they do not, because they know which side of their bread is buttered. If a vet ever made such a report, he would not get any work from any farm in his area ever again.

Thousands of heads of cattle are being culled and buried in Miyakonojo, Miyazaki Prefecture (state) in Japan

. . . more . . .

The rest of the world is getting pretty concerned about this outbreak of Foot and Mouth in Japan and Korea. US Dairy organizations are warning their members to be vigilant for anyone who has been to Japan up to 14 days before visiting a farm.

All that noise is why so many areas don't report outbreaks and contain it themselves to keep the Bureaucrats out.
