Yeah I thought that too. Makes all the teeth gnashing about how crap we were seem a bit overwrought now.

By the rules of reflected glory because we beat Serbia and Serbia beat Germany, if Germany win the world cup that makes us world champions. I see no fault in my logic.

But, you also need to analyze who beat you, and work the same logic in the other direction. Ultimately, Palau should be awarded the championship.

and on a lighter note....I assume that the below was for the victory party should Spain win it all........
Colombian police seize World Cup replica made of cocaine
(CNN) -- A replica of a World Cup trophy seized by Colombian authorities at the Bogota airport was made of cocaine, police said.

Gold paint in "bad condition" on the trophy's surface aroused the suspicion of investigators, who sent a sample of the trophy to a laboratory for forensic testing, the Colombian National Police said Saturday.

Results revealed that the replica was made of 24 pounds (11 kilograms) of cocaine, police said.

The 14-inch (36 centimeter) replica was packed along with several team jerseys in a shipment headed to Madrid, Spain.

The real trophy, designed by Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga, is the same height, but is made of solid 18-carat gold and weighs 13.6 pounds (6,175 grams). It bears the engraved year and name of each World Cup winner since 1974, according to FIFA, the international football federation.

Fuggin' long range rocket from the Dutch. 1 nil in the 18th minute over Uruguay. That was an awesome goal.

Equalizer by Diego Forlan. 1-1. Another missile. Gotta say the Dutch keeper muffed that one a bit.

Whew... classic case of Dutch disease this fine evening. So, one more time, especially since we are likely to encounter the Germans in the final:

About 20 mins in and 0-0... Spain is definitely outplaying the Germans though. Anyone else out there watching?

Spain has been in control of most of this game so far... They've done everything right except find the goal. 15 mins into the 2nd half and still 0-0.

And Spain finally found the goal. 1-0...

Not been the most exciting game so far, that's for sure.

Yup. Surprising flat game by the Germans. The better team won today. So Spain v. Holland...two great sides that have never won the World Cup. I guess it's finally time for another nation to get some World Cup shine.

Watching Spain last night was like watching a scientist dissect a large, dangerous beast. Had to be done carefully and was actually done masterfully. If they can maintain anything close to that level of precision in the final the Dutch will once more be the bridesmaids.

I would have preferred Germany for the reasons stated above: they are not easy to defeat but it can be done as they have a clear achilles heel: their defence. Spain will be more difficult.

It's a dream final really, 2 teams that have never won it before. Can't really say who I'll be supporting until I start watching but it's clear the two best teams have made the final. Maybe not the two most talented or creative or innovative but definitely the best. Hopefully too the final will be played in the proper spirit like last night's was, no cards and only 14 fouls for the whole match.
