That really is the first thing I thought when I read it. Think about your average Western gaijin who comes here right out of college to teach the Engrish. A fresh faced 22 year old who speaks little or no Japanese and finds everything about Japan really exotic and exciting. His targets are girls in their early 20s who are too young to settle down and are just looking to have fun or girls in their early to mid 30s looking for a hot boy toy to fuck the shit out of them.
Fast foward 10 years. A decade of boozing, 7-11 bentos and McDonald's have take their toll, he speaks just enough Japanese to be annoying and he's bitter about all things Japan. On top of that he's still teaching English which means he's making about a third of what a college educated Japanese guy his age is making, he's too old and pathetic to be a hot fuck and single women his age are looking for a provider to settle down with and start making babies.
Unless he's got the kind of game I do, he's fighting an uphill battle.
