I was in the basement of the Hamamatsu eki building the other day, buying a bento for dinner after finishing up with the client (I usually end up going over the day's work back at the hotel, so more often than not it's convenience store sandwiches or a bento ... do I know how to live or what?). There were a few people at the counter buying stuff, and then what must have been a homeless guy joined the group and began perusing the bento selection. This guy reeked! I mean serious unwashed body odor. He looked a bit and then sauntered away, and then the customer who was right in front of me turned around and glared at me as if I was the one who stunk!

I didn't bother saying anything ... what's the point. He's convinced that only a gaijin could be the source of such a horrible smell and nothing is going to change his mind. Fuck 'im.

canman wrote:Well, I bought the new Adidas anti-perspirant and from first hand experience I can tell you it doesn't work. It doesn't stop you from sweating and the it doesn't mask the smell of sweat after a long day. So I will go back to my Old spice Arctic chill. It does work all day long. Luckily I stocked up on it last time I was on Misawa base.

When I go back to the states, I usually load up on Degree(is one of the best, no matter how hot, the stuff works)Irish Springs, AXE-most of their products are really good and you do get quite a bit of comments from the ladies, Gillette has a bunch of stuff now. Arctic chill is not that bad. Everyone's Ph level is different, so when you apply these products, they will smell differently slightly depending on the person. I'm a heavy sweater, but I don't have a strong body oder. But still as a rule, don't even want to go to that point, so I as you said, I will just stock up on the hygiene stuff every time I go back home. As for the Adidas products, thank you for dishing out the info. I was tempted to buy it awhile back, but now after reading that...

Question: How are these wipes that people use? AXE has some wipe products. Are they good or is it just a waste of money. Any suggestions?

You know what? I had to drop the Degree in favor of Old Spice.

I think thought that deodorant effectiveness also depends on body chemistry the same way a cologne or perfume might smell nice on one, won't on someone else.

If any FGs pass through Okinawa, you can get the Old Spice deodorant in some of the small shops surrounding the public market in Central Naha. I think it's black market stuff scored from the bases.

Yeah, girls seem to like to sniff my pits when I use the Axe anti-antiperspirant stuff...maybe it's the the girls I know...no...you may not have their phone numbers. I got a bunch of the Axe wipe stuff that the Axe girls in cheap plastic leather outfits were handing out in Shinjuku last week. Went to every single girl twice over the course of a hour (had time to kill). Haven't used the sheet yet (pun intended), but today does look like a good day to do so.

I use original brut body spray anti-persperant. Say what you want about it, it works.
In addition, for the guys who don't give care. shaving armpits (especially for the 'extra smelly lads) will reduce BO significantly.

Now that Old Spice is 'hip' again, I might move back to it. ^O^

All these deodorant stories in Japan sound like scoring drugs.

I wonder what's the real rest-of-the-story about the unavailablity of real deodorants in Japan???

Here in Tokyo it's possible to buy the most obscere female/male/trannie foreign scents, exfoliants, skin creams, BUT buying foreign deodorant is impossible---WTF?!

The Foreign Buyers Club only stocks Mennon and their super-crappy organic house brand. Costco only stocks Mennon and only one scent at a time. Luckly for me, I'm a looong-time Mennon user since 1966. But again, WTFBBQ?!

There a bunch of expensive Euro-hipster brands of cooling bodysprays, aerosols, bodywashes and even deodorants that Japanese could waste their money on but are totally unavailable in Japan. Were the hell is shower gels and deodorants from brands like Lacoste, Boss, Armani, etc? I mean, those Euro-twit companies sell plenty of expensive perfume and hyper-fraudulant skin creams in Japan but no deodorant. Weird.

All those prettily packaged sweat maskers cost a fortune.
Get a gallon of Ferbreze from cosco for under 2000Yen.
It'll last through to next summer.

You just gave me horrible flashbacks of the skate tours I went on back in the day. The marketing and packaging claims are total lies. We tried using that stuff but after a few years of sweaty skates, skaters, blunt smoke and febreeze; my VW was no longer drivable due to some kind of rancid stench.

Take, what you fail to realize is that the odor is a natural defense mechanism we use to avoid lengthy contact with you.

So why don't the Japanese seem to perspire as much as we do? I have a feeling it's because they have lived in such a humid country so long that their sweat collectively emanates from their pores and blends in with the greater moisture of the nation. How else could this country be so humid?

Mike, I just figured out what your "name" means......going to get an MRI of my brain tomorrow, as clearly dementia is setting in.

One of my customers who used his personal e-mail for business, unwittingly had the exact same name registered in his e-mail soft. Lucky for him, noone else seemed to notice or call him out on it until I pointed it out. ;)

Back on topic, I just got back from the local 7-11 and nearly barfed while in the store. With all the local construction and maintenance going on, there are tons of workers that all seem to not want to every wash their work clothes. Holy shit that place smelled disgusting. How can anyone that's experienced that ever think that "Japanese don't smell." I feel sick just thinking about that nastiness.

LMFAO! I didn't realize it either till you pointed it out. Could you recommend a good hospital for that MRI?

Yeah, I went to this one place near Daimon. They played some techno drum music in the background while the MRI made it's range of whacked out sounds. Kinda had an early 1980s Sonic Youth feeling to it. Vowed to eat the brown acid before I go there again, whenever that is.

Last time I had one, I had taken Pepto Bismol the day before and that morning....it showed on the scan and they started questioning if I had just had a scan done or what the hell was showing up on their screens...as that shitty stuff they make you drink before hand couldn't have made it through my system that fast...even with the shorter colon ;)
