Alcazar wrote:I saw the site BlackTokyo too, and I was surprised to see many threads about purely about race, nothing else. Full of wild conspiracies and racial theorising, it was interesting. Some of the people on that site were so paranoid and bitter, with topics along the line of 'Are asians the new honorary whites' etc.
However, that particular thread made me realise some things about the history of Caucasians in North America, in that the presence of Black people served to unite the disparate Europeans in America together as being just 'white' instead of them still being considered French, British, Irish, German, Scandinavians, Italians, etc. Without black people, North American Caucasian society might have turned out very different, with examples of ethno-separatism such as the Quebec situation being more common....
So I still thought it was useful to read.

PS: Jim, had I met you I would have told you exactly what I think of you and waited to see what you tried. Believe me, if you raised a finger you would have been pounded down.
Also, tell me what is wrong with racism.

Ask the millions of Jewish victims who overcame German racism to make it to America years ago this question. They are still around in New York City and I'm sure they'd be glad to enlighten you, genius.

ramchop wrote:Now that I don't get. So a joke at the expense of a Japanese told in Japan is OK, but if you tell that same joke in America it's not? Or if you change the target from Japanese to Gaijin and tell that same joke it's not funny anymore?

I am welsh and have quite a few girlfriends....does that make me a sheppard? .....
Since most of you are now living in a country where you are in the ethnic minority, I don't think it should be necessary to explain why jokes against minorities are a touchier subject than jokes against people in the majority. For a lot of the people on Black Tokyo (not that I've even been to that site), I assume that they've had to live with that difference all their lives. So I'd forgive them for letting off steam, the way a lot of you do in this very forum.

That's like saying, you can't call me names because I am little minority and that would be touchy, but I can crack at you all I like because you are a majority.. and it won't be as touchy..

Another person said something very similar... "All people are selfish"... but the trouble with that logic is that it defies definition. If all people are racist, there is no such thing as a "racist", because there are no cases of "non-racist" to compare against.hanabi wrote:2) Everyone's a racist of some sort, but some people are just better at hiding it. Before you go on protesting "I'm not," let me say, "Yes, you too." The definition includes "discriminatory or abusive behavior." So even if your intent was not to be abusive, you're still discriminating. I'd like everyone to just accept this about themselves and try to use their powers for good instead of evil.
