Robots With Fast Hands

Postby Caustic Saint » Tue Jun 17, 2003 1:17 am

I wasn't sure if this should go on News or Tech, but it seemed more techy to me.

Neat article, complete with vids about a new system developed at Ishikawa Hashimoto laboratory that mates a video system with a robot hand to give it fast "reflexes" and enable it to grab objects in motion. The text below the link comes directly from the site.

Robots With Fast Hands

Grasping Using High-Speed Visual Feedback

A grasping system using high speed visual feedback has been developed. This system consists of an active vision with the parallel processing vision system called SPE-256, and a multi-fingered hand-arm system like a human hand. This is controlled using a multi-DSP Hierarchical Parallel Processing System and realtime parallel sensory feedback is realized. As a result the hand has succeeded in grasping against a target which moves randomly at high speed. Experimental results are presented.

Japanese version is also available on the site.

Very neat stuff. Just imagine what they would do next in 30 years...oh, the possibilities.

I'm sorry, if one gender is going to become obsolete through technology it is females. Not that we should fuck up the species by doing such a thing.

A world without men.. what a horrible thought!!

But then considering the source of the article I would take it all with a grain of salt.

There's an old PC game called Gender Wars wherein the males and females finally give up on peace and go to war, setting up their own countries. They each develop the equipment to make the other gender unnecessary, with the exception of biological material. You spend the game raiding one or other other's biological storage areas to try and steal sperm/eggs to keep your gender going. Is it science fiction, or the future??

Some women made the change a long time ago.

BTW: My buddy, Paul T Riddell, has trouble finding a government job because he has been busted and a REAL FBI record for allegedly selling government secrets to the Daleks :hehe: (ever mind that he'd never sell secrets to the Daleks -- the Sontarans and Cybermen pay more).
