Guardian Angels recruit non-Japanese to deal with foreigners in Roppongi
(Asahi/IHT Aug 12 )
...``Excuse me,'' says one of the beret-clad intruders, as he motions to a young Caucasian man holding a marijuana joint. ``That's forbidden by law in Japan. You can't do that here.''
Before the man can argue or plead for forgiveness for what is a misdemeanor or less in many countries, Carlos Del Aguila Enobi, 35, the leader of the Guardian Angels Japan Roppongi Patrol, calls the Azabu Police Station to report the felony...

I saw a group of them at Yokohama station the other night.

Strangely enough I feel more nervous when they are around then when they are not.

The Yokohama chapter seems to be based out of Chinatown. At least their vans are parked behind the Holiday Inn and a shed has their stickers all over it. Hmmmm. Now let me see: "Chinatown" + "Protection Group" = ????

Sounds to me like this is a good thing especially if they help clean up crime, but I would be afraid that this might promote vigilante justice..

What are their limits? Can they club people? Can they handcuff? Do they use weapons? Or are they just an observe and go call the police outfit?

And how do they determine what is a crime and what is not? Do they have some kind of Guardian Angel Handbook?

THEY'VE GOT KEITAI TO CALL THE COPS! That's it.
They run in packs and hope to intimidate.

This is a rather new organization...a youth staffed group to keep an eye on troublemakers. They patrol the streets in groups and mean business; in addition to their uniform with berets, they have walkie-talkies

Walkie talkies? Mean business? They sound like the girl scouts :D

I appauld their effort though. Crime should never prevail and it is good to see groups taking action, however hilarious it sounds.

They have rather cool headset-style Walkie talkies and KEITAI. In one way they're got it easy. There're fewer* guns to contend with... but the cops are MUCH more passive in their response to any call.

so will these sellout nazi wanna bes control the yakuza too???

"The party is over and in minutes nine police officers including a plainclothes investigator descend on the alleged criminals. They admit to buying two joints from a dealer and are taken off to a police station for questioning"

WOW 8O 9 cops!!! for a joint, what a evil crime compared to the gentle mass rapes by "virile" uni students.

"This is my country,'' says Enobi, a Peruvian who recently obtained Japanese nationality "

HHMM sounds familiar that....could it be that caped crusader Fujimori up to his old tricks :?:

yes the bosozoku are one of many problems in Japan.......but they are japanese so its OK, just let them ride.

Real Crimes hard to stop in Japan,

Postby americanchamberofcommerce » Wed Aug 13, 2003 5:13 pm

I think this is really a disturbing trend. Real crimes are hard to find and stop in Japan. The Wasada Rape club is a good example. The Yakuza are another. So what do the Guardian Angles do? Focus on foreigners?

They better watch it though. If they try to bust me while I am smoking a joint, I will spark up my meth pipe and go Postal on the mother fuckers!

Go back to chasing Bosozoku if you really want to be crime fighters!

meh, while i admit that alot of the major crime is usually not related to foreigners... it's the small stuff that pisses off the natives. kill off the stupid gaijin crimes and stay out of the news, and they wnt be able to point at the "gaijin problem" anymore. seriously, if you are not a citizen, you are a guest... least you should do is respect their laws... meh, my two cents

yes respect the law, of course thats good advice

but this is Xenophobia central where convini stores tell staff to "watch gaijin" as they are more likely to steal!! (an official statement from a large convini)...this is minor too...no matter what foreign residents do, no matter how law abiding they are, they are not japanese...therefore subject to suspision.

there is no stoping a country hell bent on blaming everything wrong with it on the scape goat foreigners.

Foreigner on Foreigner crime busting!

Postby americanchamberofcommerce » Fri Aug 15, 2003 1:38 pm

I will be honest, I break laws all the time. I do it in a way so that I do not get caught. This is Japan and you do not want to get caught breaking the law, or ever worse, breaking the norm. You will never find me smoking up in a public park. I break the laws in the US when I am there as well. :D I like breaking laws, what can I say. :P

What pisses me off about these Gaijin Guardian Angles is that they are being used to bust foreigners and think that it is going to make Japan a better and safer place. Every year Japan gets less safe, but is that because of the foreigners? Did you know that most of the crime stats reported on foreigners are Visa violations? But you would never know that when you listen to the media or hear the politicians speak. They make it sound like foreigners are out there corrupting Japan.

Drugs are in Japan because the Yakuza make money on them. Big money. And because Japanese buyers want them. The biggest drug problem in Japan is "shabushabu" otherwise known as crystalmeth and the users are all Japanese amphediamine addicts. This has nothing to do with foreigners.

The Guardian Angles go after foreigners in Roppongi but leave the real criminals alone. If they really want to help out society they should open a rehab clinic in Shibuya for all the speed and meth addicts there. But heck, what fun would that be, you would not get to wear your paramilitary out fit and red barret! 8)

I once saw them near Tower Records in Shibuya. I respect what they're doing. I wouldn't suggest that the foreign GA's get in any throw-downs, especially not with Japanese troublemakers. Just stick to calling the police, and let them take it from there.
