It's quite true, sadistic yet true, nothing is worse than being stuck on the Chuo Line because somone thought it would be a great idea to jump the tracks.

Yep. That's the way I see it too. It's almost a protest of sorts and it certainly makes people aware of suicide in this country. Now, if only some constructive measures were taken to create a society where people would rather live than die...

I think Lurk and Ganma got it right...most people who commit acts of violence here are also mad at society in general, and usually not at any one person in specific. They usually act out by stabbing random strangers or driving a car into a crowd of people rather than attacking their boss or ex-lover. They are lashing out at the society they perceive as fucking them over, just as those committing suicide are trying to end their pain while simultaneously taking a parting shot.

I think suicides choose the train because it's a pretty efficient method.

Not always apparently. A Japanese friend told me that an acquaintance of his from high school made 2 attempts by jumping on the tracks and failed. Each time he lost one leg. In the end he managed to finish the job by hanging himself.
