[floatl][/floatl]The Asahi reports (Japanese) that Okinasugi, a famous cedar tree on Yakushima, has collapsed. A local guide found the tree, believed to be 2,000 years old, with the remains of the trunk covered in moss and vegetation (left) but it is unclear what might have led to the fall. Rumours that the tree may have really died several hundred years ago are being denied.
