His Name Lives On

Postby Mulboyne » Sun Sep 19, 2010 6:39 pm

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Regular board members will already know about the role of Thomas Blake Glover in Japan. His position as head of the Nagasaki foreign community was assumed by Frederick Ringer and a quick look at the man's Wiki entry shows he also made some major contributions in his time. Nagasaki is holding some celebrations in Glover Garden for their former foreign community, and one of Ringer's surviving great-grandsons made his first trip to Japan, at the age of 69, to attend them (left). Glover's instrumental role in founding Kirin Brewery is already well known but it is Ringer's name which has wider currency today on the streets of Japan. A noodle restaurant, which opened in Nagasaki in 1963, took his name and there are now over 500 outlets of Ringer Hut throughout the country.

DEATH TO THE TRADEMARK/COPYRIGHT TROLL "RINGER HUT" (founded 1963) who 110% copied Fingerhut (founded 1948) right down to their trademarked building.
:mad2:

Ringer Hut has no relationship to Frederick Ringer, the English merchant who was famous in Nagasaki. The Japanese company just ripped off the exotic/foreign theme of 19th century England.

Ringer Hut is one of 100s of Japanese trademark thieves like Japan-wide fake "Hungry Tiger" restaurants, Tokyo's Soul Train nightclub, and Tokyo Joe's.

Was coincidentally looking at Glover Garden's website the other. Looks like one of the nicer places to have a cold one in Japan.

I went dere after mah gunkanjima trip...

You will NEED a cold one... everything in this town is up and down it's sort of the city of the 1000000 stairs... and it's hot... like... hell on earth hot...

But the garden and his former house is quite sort of a littul bit of magic and common sense (like the Toyota house of the founder in the Toyota museum, you wonder why they went from these marvel to the current crop of soul crushing rabbit huts)

Bottom of the page for the Glover garden (all the pictures between the kitten playing with momcat taken from the top and the china town by night ones)
