China severing ties with Japan

China's playing hardball
Image
In this photo released by Japan Coast Guard, a Coast Guard boat, foreground, goes by a Chinese fishing boat which Coast Guard officers are on board for inspection after it collided with two Japanese patrol vessels near a chain of disputed islands known as Senkaku in Japanese or Diaoyu in Chinese in the East China Sea, Tuesday, Sept. 7.

Japan urged China to remain calm and not inflame their diplomatic spat further Monday after Beijing severed high-level contacts and then called off a visit by Japanese youth over the detention of a Chinese fishing boat captain near disputed islands.

China's actions pushed already-tense relations to a new low, and showed Beijing's willingness to play hardball with its Asian rival on issues of territorial integrity, which include sparring with Japan over natural gas fields in the East China Sea. Late Sunday, Beijing said it was suspending ministerial and provincial-level contacts, halting talks on aviation issues and postponing meetings to discuss energy-related issues, including a second round of talks with Japan on the gas deposits.

On Monday, an official Chinese youth organization called off a visit by 1,000 young Japanese to Shanghai, piling more pressure on Japan to release the captain, who has been held for nearly two weeks after his ship collided with Japanese patrol boats in the East China Sea on Sept. 7.

The tensions have sent ties to their lowest level since the 2001-2006 term of former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, whose repeated visits to a war shrine in Japan enraged China. They have raised questions about cooperation between the nations at international forums such as this week's summit in New York on United Nations goals to fight poverty, which Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao are attending.

Chinese premier wants immediate, unconditional release of boat captain - CNN

Postby BigInJapan » Wed Sep 22, 2010 2:25 pm

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, in New York Tuesday for the United Nations General Assembly, urged Japan to release a detained Chinese boat captain "immediately and unconditionally," China's state news agency Xinhua reported.

Otherwise, China will take further measures, Wen said in a meeting with Chinese nationals and Chinese-Americans, according to Xinhua.

Yeah, it is kinda like deja vu, all over again.

From 1941
The American oil embargo caused a crisis in Japan. Reliant on the US for 80% of its oil, the Japanese were forced to decide between withdrawaling from China, negotiating an end to the conflict, or going to war to obtain the needed resources elsewhere. In an attempt to resolve the situation, Konoe asked US President Franklin Roosevelt for a summit meeting to discuss the issues. Roosevelt replied that Japan needed to leave China before such a meeting could be held.

From 2010

"The Chinese government has requested exporters to demonstrate support for the Chinese situation and suspend exports of rare earths to Japan until the end of the month when the situation will be reviewed," said Industrial Minerals owner and former mining executive Dudley Kingsnorth. "It's very regrettable if we have the effective suspension of commercial contracts for political reasons."

So in '41 Roosevelt halts talks, in 2010 . . .
Meanwhile, China has halted all high-level government contacts between the two countries. . .

Even though China is denying an embargo, it is practically like history is trying to repeat itself.

Of course it does not help that this week is the anniversary of Japan's invasion of Manchuria in 1931. :wall:

From the recent Obama Celebrity Roast at the UN, give it up for Hu Jintao everybody!

Yeah Confucius say fuck you, you third rate unibrow rug dealer [to Ahmedinejad]. Don't make me open a can of one-child-policy on your smelly Persian ass. You're no Long Dong Wang yourself, and at least mine isn't covered in camel crap. Hey everybody, how's it goin'?

(applause)

And how about that Barack Obama. What a prince, huh? The most generous man in show biz.

(applause)

Yep. Generous to a fault. With my money. What? You think all those big tips he throws around come out of his own pocket? Just the other day he called up and said, "hey Hu, how about spotting me a couple trillion till next tax day?" And I'm like, what, does Aunt Esther need another pair of sneakers? And he goes, "no, I got a Social Security payment due."

I'm like, dude -- what happened to that last trillion I lent you? Get this: the stupid fucker spent it on a beat up Cadillac for his union buddies. So I say, look, I'm a little short right now. I'll catch you at your 30-year treasury bond garage sale. Then the next week he's like, dude, where were you?" Ah so, round-eye! No tickee, no thirty!

Yeah, that ain't the half of it. Not only does this asshole expect me to be his personal ATM and pawnshop, he's always calling up bitching about something. Just the other day, he's like, "come on Hu, how come you keep busting my balls with your naval drive-bys?" I'm like dude, you're 3 months overdue on your aircraft carrier payments. Those aren't Chinese navy boats, those are repo men!

Look folks, I gotta get back home and churn out another load of defective plastic crap for Wal Mart, to make some money, to lend to Barack for some new idiot free bullshit program. Christ, and they call me a Commie! 'Night everybody, and please remember to thank your designated tank driver.

This is the main reason why it's in nobody's interest to have China grow economically. They can keep their cheap goods. We were doing pretty well in the West when we were manufacturing our own products. Fuck Wal-Mart, they are responsible for China's growth.

Japan: Blink :theeye:

Japanese prosecutors decided Friday to release the captain of a Chinese fishing boat involved in a collision near disputed islands whose detention raised tensions between the Asian neighbors.Beijing has angrily demanded that the captain be released and cut off ministerial-level talks with Japan as relations between the two countries spiraled to their worst level in years.
Prosecutors in southern Japan, where the captain has been in custody for more than two weeks, said they would let him go, citing the damage done to relations with China. It was unclear when authorities would release him.
The case was still pending, but it looked increasingly unlikely that charges would be filed.

It's just that Uniqlo is puny compared with Wal-Mart. Buy yeah, fuck'em all. I'll also boycot Uniqlo. Damn it would be so easy to boycot them if they stopped selling pretty good-looking polo shirts for 690 yen.

By the way, on a more serious note, I heard that Japan is footring the bill for all the American military presence in Japan. Does anyone know how much Japan pays for that every year?

Too Much, but Military Protection is what Japan wants right now from the U.S. in order to keep China's Dog off their lawn.

Tsst...China is on a Fast-Track to their own destruction.

Their Economy is going to BURST at any time and they know it.

That's why they continue to keep pressuring Japan to give up the Senkaku Islands in order to get to that Big Giant Oil Shelf on the Sea Floor.

They want to keep things at the Boiling Point in order to threaten their neighbors like Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam.

China continuosly sends its Wareships near Okinawa to threaten the Japanese, Export Poison Gioza to Japan, Sour Dry Wall to America, and Led Filled Toys to most of the World without ONE God Dam Apology, and then they Bully on Japan, threan Economic Sanctions on America, and pretend like their the "Victims"?

What a Facade.

China lacks Dynamics, Luster, and Brilliance.

I've got no worries that it's not a matter of "If" but a matter of "When" China will completly go Nova on itself.

Late.

Japan rejects apology on China boat row
okyo, Japan (CNN) -- Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says relations with China are "extremely important," but Beijing's demand for an apology and compensation over the detention of a Chinese fishing boat captain is "completely groundless and is utterly unacceptable for Japan."

The statement Saturday went on to assert Japanese jurisdiction over the islands where the captain was detained and declared that the dispute was handled in accordance with Japanese law.

Zhan Qixiong was detained earlier this month after his trawler collided with Japanese vessels near disputed islands in the East China Sea. He was freed on Friday.

Earlier, Satoru Sato, a spokesman for the Japanese Foreign Ministry, made similar statements to Japan's Kyodo news agency in response to China's apology demand.

Despite this call for an apology, China's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the two sides should resolve the problems through dialogue and consultation, according to Chinese state media.

If Japan apologizes for this, I'm joining the uyouku.

Nope.

Kan said there will be no apologies from Japan.

He also said, "The Senkaku islands are Japan's own territory. From this viewpoint, compensation is unthinkable."

President Obama said that the U.S. stands firm with Japan and that the U.S. intends to play a bigger role in this dispute (a move that has also pissed off China).

You see, this little stunt at Land Grabbing by China just BACKFIRED in their Sweet-N-Sour Pie Holes!

Good God! I was watching the stupid news program "Every" while eating dinner, and the idiot announcer was looking at all the things on his desk, and was feigning surprise that so many of the things he uses were made in China. It was like, "ooh the remote control is made in China! Ahh, my Ipod was made in China! Even my Gap jacket was made in China! I had no idea"
What a crock, as if most or all Japanese don't t know they are totally beholding to China for every piece of crap they buy either at Daiso, or "Abecro" or any other store here in Japan.
Japanese news really sucks!

Online posts suggest anti-Japan demonstrations in China were gov't orchestrated

SHANGHAI, China -- Some contributors to Chinese Internet forums are suggesting that the angry young people seen burning Japanese flags and holding banners with phrases like "Crush Japan" at protests on Oct. 16 and 17 may have been manipulated by the Chinese government.

In China, demonstrations and other public assemblies can only be held after applying for permission with authorities. It is virtually impossible to receive permission to hold demonstrations on subjects the Chinese government is wary of, such as human rights or democratization. However, in times of confrontation between China and other countries, pro-China demonstrations often suddenly occur, a fact which some Chinese citizens seem to have become fed up with.
