Osaka prosecutors have apologized for failing to prosecute Roberto Gonzales in a sexual assault case. The 62 year old Argentinian is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman in an Osaka hotel in January. He was arrested but later released, and is reported to have left the country the next day. The case was reviewed in March and prosecutors belatedly concluded that Gonzales' testimony was unreliable. They decided they should have gone ahead with a trial and have formally initiated proceedings. Since Japan has no extradition treaty with Argentina, however, the defendant cannot be brought to court. The lawyer representing the woman in the case says the prosecution's apology is no comfort to her client.,
