I find his works exquisitely beautiful, minus the lolita.

I'm not much of an art person, but even I can tell his fiberglass shit work is more suited to one of those neutral modern art places with whitewashed walls, rooflights and an Ikea floor than a world heritage site where people go to immerse themselves in classical goodness.

It is doing nobody any favors... Versailles looks bad for hosting it, and his art looks just more like the provocateur fiberglass shit that everyone who gives two shits about good art thinks it is. In 100 years nobody will remember this guy.

The Jeff Koons exhibition at Versailles, mentioned in the BBC report, drew a similar response.

Each generation of artist, having to compete first with photography, then film, and now electronic media, has to dream up something weirder than the previous generation.

Impressionism -> Cubism -> Surrealism -> Abstractionism -> . . . -> Installationism [a.k.a. Take a dump on a canvas ism] -> Whateverism

Novelty for the sake of novelty and shock value has become the overriding criteria.
Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.
