Indian Students Make Largest Sushi Mosaic, Apparently In Secret

Postby Mulboyne » Thu Mar 20, 2008 1:47 pm

Hospitality Biz: Mumbai creates world’s largest sushi mosaic
Students of the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition (IHM), Mumbai have set a new Guinness record for the world's largest sushi mosaic. The 15.16 sq metre (163.28 square feet) sushi mosaic and consists of 5814 sushi pieces. The attempt started at 7.00 am IST and the record was broken at 4.35 pm IST. The previous record for "largest sushi mosaic" was measured at 4.84 sq metres (52.1 sq feet) and was made by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) at the Golden Terraces Shopping Centre in Zlota, Warsaw, Poland, on 17 November 2007. The students of IHM, Mumbai have broken this record by creating the largest sushi mosaic consisting of Maki sushi, Inari sushi, Nigiri sushi, Uramaki sushi, and Chirashi sushi. The salmon used in this sushi is from Norway.

This story suffers somewhat from a lack of photographs of the damn thing. I thought one must pop up eventually but, even though there are now dozens of news articles on this record-breaking feat, I've yet to see one. All Nippon Airways sponsored this attempt if that helps anyone with better google fu dig out a picture.

There's a picture that accompanies the story that you linked to; isn't that the sushi mosaic?

I'd say that is some impressive web-fu.

Ended up not only finding, but linking to the picture without even trying. :D

Largest Sushi Mosaic - world record set by Norway
SHANGHAI, China--In celebration of the arrival of the 10,000,000 Norwegian Salmon to China, the Norwegian Seafood Export Council created a sushi mosaic featured 8,374 pieces of sushi made from different types of seafood, primarily salmon, but also cod, mackerel and prawns - setting the new world record for the Largest Sushi Mosaic at the Shanghai World Expo. [It] used 120 kilos of rice and 65 kilos of Norwegian Salmon, and took 6 hours and 15 minutes to complete...The new World's Largest Sushi Mosaic bested India's Guinness World Record-certified champion from 2008, when 5,814 sushi pieces were used to spell the word MUMBAI over 15.16 square meters.

I wonder whether the Norwegians began to have second thoughts about offering up sushi in China.

The Indians still hold the world record -- for number of people suffering from food poisoning after eating sushi.

I forgot which is which but do Indians still follow the tradition of wiping their asses with one hand and shaking hands with the other? If so, sushi is the last food I ever want to eat in India.. not that I probably will ever go there for a vacation excursion.

I think it is wiping asses with one hand (using toilet paper) and eating with another hand, but I don't think the custom says never wash hand after going to toilet. I am quite sure Japanese sushi chefs still need to go toilet and wipe their asses with at least one of their hands.

Nope, they don't use toilet paper. It is a primitive washlet technology.

For some reason, this thread got me imagining what it would have been like had the other Indians (you know, Native Americans, injuns, squaws, etc., etc.) had lived on sushi instead of buffalo...It would have had an enormous impact on Cowboy and Indian movies. The idea of the Duke wrangling guppies just doesn't have the same impact as him using his Colt to thunder a bullet through a rampagin bison and knocking off a hostile native with the ricochet....

....sorry, bullshite meandering thoughts....

....I need a job....

True, but it doesn't have quite the same romance and appeal as the prairies and campfires and all that other shite I grew up with...I can't imagine Shane walking off into the distance with the kid shouting to him after he'd risked his life looking after a trout farm....

...I'd better take my medication. I can see my mind wandering in all sorts of weird ways today and I can't look at porn to distract it....

From a self-professed (and self-published) non-Japanese "Purveyor of Fine Japanese Cuisines, Nihonshu, Shrine, Onsen and Jukujo", that's a joke.

What's wrong with self-publishing? And how's it a joke?

I am a proud self-published author of two books, which gives me a little credibility. These jokers wasted good hard caught fish on something as dumb as that mosaic.

Grammar Nazi alert: There is a redundant use of the indefinite article in this sentence that renders its meaning entirely incorrect. (Hint: It's not the one before "proud.")

It means the second "a" in McFuckwit's sentence is superfluous.

I resisted making a retort to McT's response, but as IparryU is requesting an explanation...

Screwed Up Eyes was being facetious (jesting/joking) when he indicated that the comment should read as follows:

Resident McTroll wrote:I am a proud self-published author of two books, which gives me little credibility.

- a little credibility = means having some credibility
- little credibility = means having virtually no credibility
This all stems from the fact that he self-published his books, whereas a real author with credibility would have publishers coming to them wanting to publish their books.

Definitely my bad...I thought it was slightly more intellectually stimulating than discussing the supposed benefits of paying to suckle on a lactating woman's breast....
...But, with a little thought, I realized that I am definitely getting old and that there is not much more of an inspiring subject to talk about than tits.
Apologies to all....
