I wonder if increased international flights out of or into Haneda are scaring the Narita Airport authorities?

I would like to know how these airlines justify the extra Y10 000 fee for flying out of Haneda? I haven't been to Haneda in a long time, how much does it cost to get there in comparison to Narita. Geting to Narita is rather expesnsive, I feel. I was watching NHK and they were talking about the landing fees, here in Japan and in Korea. Haneda, Y400 000, Narita Y300 000, Seoul Inchon Y50 000. How can Japan compete at those costs.

US airlines Delta, American and Hawaiian have been awarded the four operating slots at Haneda International, while Canadian flag-carrier Air Canada will also inaugurate a new route to Vancouver from next January.

Good news for Canucks too. Haneda is much closer for me, I just hope they won't tack on an extra Y10,000 onto the flights.

Given the date and the difficulties the locals have with Engrish, are you sure this is not "frights in and out of Haneda" and the actual flights are gonna be at another time?

ANA at least are also letting you fly out of Haneda and come back through Narita and vice versa even on the cheapest tickets which could be handy in some circumstances. I'm sure though that it won't be long until the heartless cunts that seem to inhabit the boardrooms of airlines put a stop to it. Or more likely, charge a premium for it.

It got a bit farcical over the weekend. Both ANA and JAL wanted to be the first international flight away from the new Haneda. Both were due to leave at 00:05 but ANA suddenly decided to move theirs up five minutes. JAL learned of the move and devised a counterplan. They sent their staff out to herd all the passengers from the shops into the departure lounge early to see if they could be ready first. The passengers still had to hang around before boarding leading some of them to wonder why they had been dragged there.

Netizens are saying this incident just illustrates how both airlines put their own interests ahead of their customers. ANA got away first but even some of their staff thought all the last-minute manoeuvring was unseemly.

Piffling rivalry aside, this is definitely a case of JAL getting one up the ANA where it was trying to get one-up on ANA.
Apologies for bringing the level of conversation down, yet again.

Isn't this pretty much the norm for most businesses? Banks and insurance companies are also good examples. The trick seems to be to give the appearance of considering the customer's needs while actually giving them as little as possible for as much return as possible. The failure in this case was behavior that made the true intent obvious. Poor management.

Of course there are businesses that have true "soul," but any organization with more than about 10 employees is suspect IMO.

Somebody enjoyed their flight

Flying in any airline's Business Class is always a nice treat. There are some airlines with pretty decent domestic Business Classes out there, but to really have a top-notch experience, you need to take an international flight. Recently, when I flew from Los Angeles (LAX) to Narita Airport (NRT) in Japan, I was able to fly in All Nippon Airway's (ANA) Business Class (disclaimer: ANA picked up the tab on my flight from LAX-NRT-LAX).

All this great product and service comes at a price. A Business Class Seat on ANA from LAX to NRT can cost $4000.00 plus. Of course many folks flying in Business Class either have a corporate credit card paying or are using their miles. If the Business Class isn't enough for you, ANA's also has First Class on many of their international flights which is a whole other experience. No matter what class I am in, I am always excited to take a flight halfway around the world.

Fo shizzle. Doing SFO->Haneda tomorrow and am already experiencing physical arousal. I've been in Japan long enough that I put gaijin in my online, alter-ego name before it was cool/lame to do so and have never tried to revolutionize Japan... but I really hope they adopt the "time is money policy" one of these damn years.

Heathrow Airport gets flights to Tokyo Haneda
Heathrow Airport now offers a British Airways (BA) service to Tokyo Haneda after the company linked up with American Airlines as part of the one world airline alliance.

Flights manned by both firms left the Japanese travel hub on February 21st on their way to New York and London's Heathrow Airport.

BA passengers can now fly on Haneda's only route to the UK, which runs five times every week.

"Today is a historic day for British Airways as we start our new route from Haneda which compliments our existing service from Narita. The start of this route allows us to offer our customers greater choice and flexibility," BA's area general manager Asia Pacific, Jamie Cassidy, said.

To celebrate the launch of the routes Mr Cassidy, along with American's vice president & managing director Asia/Pacific, Theo Panagiotoulias, were present at a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Japanese travel hub.

Furthermore, BA has begun codesharing on flights between Moscow and Heathrow airport with Russian company S7 Airlines.

Unfortunately, Vancouver -> Haneda Air Canada flights that were announced last year have still not materialized.

Air Canada indefinitely postpones flights to Tokyo's Haneda airport
Air Canada has indefinitely put on hold its plan to start a daily service between Tokyo's Haneda airport and Vancouver because demand, particularly from higher-paying business travelers, has fallen short of projections, airline officials said Friday.

Nice, maybe if they keep this up, Narita flights won't even be a consideration anymore. 10,000 Yen isn't too horrible, just think of it as a donation to the fuck Narita fund.

That and I'm sick of explaining to visiting friends that even though it's called Tokyo International Airport, Narita is not in Tokyo. One guy I know was dumb enough to take a 30,000+ taxi ride from Narita to Shinjuku. People get even more irritated when they bring up Tokyo Disneyland...

Seems like a reasonable trade off if one values their time.
