Best Budget City To Learn Japanese At?

Because Tokyo is hectically expensive I want a city that's cheaper and good to learn japanese at.

Although what, you're just gonna show up and learn Japanese? Shouldn't you look for a school?

I had a friend from sapporo and he didnt have a strong dialect. but when it comes to "learning" japanese, as long as you pick it up, you can listen to the news to learn the proper gig...

but if money is the main craiteria... cuntry town it is. if you look half decent, you'll end up beeing the town fling... good idea...

How much (at least) Do I need to have in the bank account in order to be accepted? In another word, what's the amount needed in my bank statement?

Planning to study in Tokyo and going to live with in a friend;s apartment temporarly, if I tell them I am going to stay at his apartment instead of renting myself, could they lower the amount needed in the bank statement?

I think that they just want a copy of the bank book for TT (furikomi) ...

but if they are trying to check how much you have in the account so they know that you will live... you would have to dig around for that.

probably JPY500,000 would clear?

Nobody should normally need to see your cash flow and bank balance ... unless you're trying to get credit or the taxman wants to know. They should only need a copy of the cover or the inside cover for the basic account info: bank, branch, account holder name, type of account, and account number.

But you're not going to teach, you're going to study, right? Is the school going be paid directly from your bank account? Other than that I can't imagine why a language school you're going to study at should need your bank info at all. Or is it a visa requirement to ensure that you're not going to be working illegally? If it's the latter you're probably going to need to be able to show that you have enough cash to cover your living expenses for however long you plan to be here.

A bank statement is a requirement to get a pre-college visa which is the one you need for Japanese language school. They usually want to see the equivalent of about 3 million yen which immigration figures is enough to pay tuition and live for a year. Even if you're going through a univeristy program and eligible for student loans (like I did for nihongo gakko) they won't consider those as income. You can work up to 4 hours a day on a pre-college visa but you have to apply for a work permit seperately after you arrive so that potential income is also not considered. They want to see cash in a bank account up front.

If you don't have enough in your own account, do your parents? I paid for everything myself with savings and student loans but didn't have enough in my bank account to satisfy the requirement so I got my dad to claim he was going to support me and get a statement from his bank. All that matters is that you have the document not that anyone actually pays your way.

The bank statement request is not from the school, it's from immigration for your visa. If you are looking to study full time on a pre-college student visa (or whatever they call it now) then the schools are all going to ask for the same thing.

You guys (SJ & FGL) went to Japanese language school? That must have been a trip, I went to high school here, so never attended a language-specific school. It was an "international" school where all the classes were held in English, but being adolescent sponge-brains we picked up the lingo pretty quick. Most of my classmates were fairly fluent within a couple of years. At least conversationally. But sometimes I wish I'd had more formal training. I did have to study to learn how to read and write though (it's easy enough to learn to speak when you're a kid, but that darned kanji stuff requires a bit of effort).

Urge to hijack thread before I get out of town......In terms of electronics, as the terminology is continously changing, "Inputs" can denote a plurality of independent data sets being enterred into a computer, etc.

I found a 6 months language course and I am planning to apply to it very soon, good thing that I can apply for a 6 months student visa as well.
