The next Lady Gaga could be a Japanese holographic singing idol
Nov 10, 2010

If you're an aspiring musician, stop reading now, this will be painful. Japan's Crypton Future Media has unleashed upon the world what may be the future of pop music in the amazingly realistic, holographic singing idol Hatsune Miku.

Hatsune is a product of Japan's popular Vocaloid software scene in which fans can create their own songs for fictional characters to sing. The twist here is that Crypton took things to the next level by making the character into a hologram and actually putting their avatar on tour, playing to huge enthusiastic audiences. The spectacle of a hologram performing on stage, with a live backing band in front of thousands of screaming fans is pure science fiction brought to real life. To really process exactly how amazing (and hauntingly creepy) the Hatsune Miku music tour is, take a look at the
HD video below.

It's amateur week for the posting ?

H.M was even featured on French TV last month, who usually pride itself in being at least 2 years late for any trend. Of course just to be ridiculed, by journalists known for being barely literate enough to write their name while pissing in the snow.

Well it's the first time I've seen it....and wow..
I'm not into anime or jpop but it would have been interesting to see that technology in action, live. I had no idea holograms had become this far advanced.

Yeah the quality of the image projection is pretty startling. Freaky.

This technology is going to prevent Japanese men from ever falling in love/lust with a real woman ever again....
Next step, the virtual dakimakura....

...now I know where Take has been the past few months.

Ironically, the PC game Deus Ex 2 (2003) had a sort of Brittany Spears-type virtual AI idol in it.

Of course, that came after the Sharon Apple character from Macross Plus (1994).

So basically Japan has been primed for a non-existent pop star for a few years now.

Still, I want to know how that projection system works... freakishly realistic looking.

I imagine its a very specialized projector aimed at a thin fog medium, or a plate of glass of some sort.
