[/floatl]Japanese police were embarrassed recently when documents relating to counter-terrorism planning, including suspect profiles, leaked onto the internet. Some of those named in the files were shocked at being included and angry that they were under suspicion in any way. Shinjuku publisher Daisanshokan has now released all the leaked data in book form. The publisher is known for producing books highly critical of police and their aim is clearly to embarrass law enforcement. Asked whether such publication of private information is justified, company head Akira Kitagawa pointed out that the damage had already been done by the leaks. He said that by distributing the information more broadly, Daisanshokan wanted to draw attention to the way a lot of this data appeared to have been illegally gathered by the police. Some shops have refused to sell the book but the publishers says it will be on some shelves and also available through online sellers.
