God I love businesses that go out of their way to empower women...
The punter dancing in front of the toilet door toward the end of this clip was hilarious. I remember going to the opening of a gentlemen's club in Roppongi several years ago that similarly empowered female employees, but instead of having them wear skimpy uniforms and dancing to shitty music, it made the girls strip off and swim in a pool visible to patrons on a basement floor. A Japanese dude sat and watched, his drooling matching every bit of condensation that built up on the pool tank. Kinda reminds me of the toilet-dancing dude, but downsized in light of the economic downturn of the past few years.
Also interesting to see some of the Hooters' birds actually had hooters (excepting the gaijin ring-ins, of course, who also had decent arses). One of the birds with boobs was, however, built almost like a female shotputter from the former East Germany during the days of the Cold War Olympics.

Hooters says it has averaged over 500 customers a day since it opened which is better than they expected. The local boss says he now wants to get permission from head office to create some menu items specific to Japan.

You know, he might be right that they could be successful. However, if I was Hooters head office, I'd think seriously about firing him (or whatever they can do to rein him in under the franchise agreement).

If your local manager is already thinking about going off piste after barely a month in operation, then he clearly has big plans for himself which don't necessarily include you.

I went there (again) last week and saw 2 tables of girls... not with their bosses, but just 4 girls and another with 3 girls... Opens open windows for dykes too!

Hootless is taking business from the lunch spot next door (Westlands or something like that) even though the girls said that lunch died down.

when it is dead, the manager sends them off on foot for a walk around to see how the other shops are doing. that is a damn good idea because people would follow them back to the hive...

Hooters Japan boss Mitsuo Tanabe is interviewed in Japanese here. It covers similar territory to the Japan Today interview in English here.

The additional information he gives is that the first week's takings were a record for any new Hooters branch and he is hoping to set a first month record too. I'm sure the current exchange rate helps with that calculation.

He mentioned to JT that Ginza and Shinagawa were both possible expansion areas but adds here that a beach side location in Okinawa is also under consideration.

Despite the queues, Hooters has no plans to limit the time customers can spend dining, especially since some have come far to try it out. Tanabe thinks Japanese are very good at hospitality businesses because they are good at working out what customers might want.

Tanabe says "Hooters Girl" is a recognized and respected job title in its own right in America and he wants to create that status in Japan too.

So my new lemur works at Foooootaaahz and I can't stop laughing at the shit I hear from her...

1.) Barely any English ability but they're forced to memorize the menu, drink ingredients, songs, etc. in English.

2.) Perv managers always offering the girls to stay with them if they miss their last train. (they're open til the wee hours of the morning)

3.) As you might expect (TIJ) there are several customers using the place to replace their hostess bar trips. One guy in particular is there everyday and literally will not take his eyes off the girls tits...I mean, we go there for the hooters but the dude has the menu memorized and does not break his stare for anything.

4.) They are trying to be Amerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrican stairu and do not use keigo towards customers. This has resulted in numerous assaults and angry complaints from customers who can't wrap their heads around the concept...yet the management refuses to "warn" customers about this, calling it a "friendly surprise."

5.) Sounds like it's operated like a franchise with Japaneeeeze in control so.....
