Google Japanese IME

Postby Coligny » Sun Dec 26, 2010 1:59 pm

Input method for japanese

http://www.google.com/intl/ja/ime/index.html

Seems cool...

But...

I'm not exactly the best person to give an opinion on this...

From what I see, it look like the usual Mac style input method... that I must have used thrice in my life... So I don't know how it compare to the standard Microsoft input method... That I enabled once by mistake...

I've used the Microsoft IME for years and never really had a problem with it.

The Google one there does look smarter though, I think I'll give it a shot.

For those that like to use Dvorak layout with the IME, you'll need to hack the registry a bit but it works like charm after that. Actually, Dvorak works better with Japanese seeing as all the vowels are under the left hand anyway.

I prefer the Apple version. I'd used it for years.

I prefer Microw$oft version, Apple makes me want to slam my head several times...

I do like the mouse pad capabilities on Apples though, fugging great tools if you are a advid keyboard user like me. you have more use for your thumbs rather than your pinky.

Therein lies the rub: It's more what you are used to than anything else.

I'm going to give the Google IME a shot though and see how it goes. I don't work in Japanese as much these days as I used to but it is still part of my day on most days.
