Kimono spotting

Postby GomiGirl » Mon Jan 10, 2011 12:51 am

The MIL arrives tomorrow and I thought it might be nice to show her all the purdy kimonos at coming of age ceremonies around town.

Where would be a good spot to stalk some new adults? I have had lots of random sightings over the last few days but I want to make sure of good sightings but don't know where the ceremonies are normally held.

Suggestions?

There always seemed to be a lot of girls heading to Meiji Jingu, and of course there is a lot of other people watching to be done in that general area.

Nah, the coming-of-age ceremonies are held at town halls and civic centers and the like. Some of 'em end up at shrines though, so that might be a good place to hang. Two birds with one stone, ne?

My daughter had her ceremony yesterday and I'm afraid GG that most places also help their events yesterday. That way the kids have a chance to get roaring eyed drunk, sleep it off today, a national holiday and start back to work, school tomorrow.

Since I don't normally go for jail bait, how old is the MIL? Is she hot? Instead of the fluffy kimono stuff, could you see a Yank in a fundoshi in her future?

I saw quite a few dressed up for coming of age day today so either not all the ceremonies took place yesterday or else some were giving it a second run.

Out in the countryside, I think they tend to get the ceremonies over with on Sunday as it gives people time to travel back to To,kyo, Osaka etc.

Yup, sorry about that, I guess it is an inaka thing to have the ceremony on sunday as Dimwit said, yesterday when we took my daughter to the station, there were a lot of over served young people getting ready to board trains back to civilization, but a good many of them were looking pretty green!
