Leonard Foujita, an acclaimed early 20th-century artist known for his unique creamy white pictures of naked women and other works, used baby powder in some of his paintings during World War II, according to an art museum. Foujita, whose real name is Tsuguharu Fujita (1886-1968 ), used a Japanese-made baby powder named Shikkaroru as a painting material...Renowned photographer Ken Domon took a series of photos of Foujita at work. When the museum's curator, Hiroyuki Uchiro, examined the photos, he noticed a can of Shikkaroru beside a canvas. Uchiro said Foujita could have used the baby powder by sprinkling it on a half-dry canvas surface and then rubbing it in, or by mixing the powder into pigments...more...
