There are a lot of Indian dudes working in IT here and it's much easier to get a visa to work in Japan than it is to work in most (all?) Western nations.

Getting a work visa in the states is actually extremely easy. A H1A or H1B, one or two year, will run you about 2-5k and has about the same requirements as a one year work visa here. Every two years you have to pay about 2-5k to have a lawyer help you fill out the mountain of paperwork to renew. If you want to get a visa for more than two years you need a sponsor and about 15k for the legal bullshit. US working holiday visas can be issued several times, we had the same kids come and help our company every summer. Some came four or more years in a row.

The US is not a member of the nations that take part in the working holiday program (of which Japan is a participant), but there are programs with other countries (Wiki for details about non-participating countries).

I never said Japanese people going to the US, I was talking about other countries that have the deal with the US. Here in gundam land the government will only issue a WHV once. Some people manage to get two by waiting a few years and getting a new passport but the US will issue them year after year.

I never met a person, who had the money, that ever had any trouble. Green card is extremely difficult but if you have the cash for a good lawyer, a BA or better from a good school and a letter of intent from a potential employer getting a work visa is not hard. One just has to know how to play the game. Mexicans coming over the border fall under a different category because they entered illegally and usually don't have a passport.

I have. Quite a few actually. And the fact that it takes money, a lawyer and knowing how to "play the game" just proves my point. In Japan it takes 4000 yen, an application and a sponsor. I've never heard of anyone getting rejected here unless they had a criminal record or didn't meet the basic requirements (BA or 10 years experience).
