Patricia Kuhl: The linguistic genius of babies
TEDxRainier, October 10, 2010
[floatr]Image[/floatr]At TEDxRainier, Patricia Kuhl shares astonishing findings about how babies learn one language over another -- by listening to the humans around them and "taking statistics" on the sounds they need to know. Clever lab experiments (and brain scans) show how 6-month-old babies use sophisticated reasoning to understand their world.

Watch the Video

Anyone who has kids, teaches a language, or is interested in language learning in general should watch this. Very, very interesting.
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Very very interesting.

Makes a lot of sense too. (why kids can learn languages so fast)

But its not like we can teach an infant 10 different languages and expect them to remember them!

If you don't continually practice/use a language you loose it. Slower when your older, faster when your younger.

How many here (long term inmates) have started forgetting English words?

No, still in the bin...they let me out on Sundays to terrorize little children.
Still a few months away from freedom yet.
