Some people can not find work in their countries. I am amazed at what some people here at my office tell me. That many countries are having a very difficult time in not only in areas of employment...but just the luxury of clean water.

Yes. I am from Fat America. We take everything for granted. Since I have moved here to Japan...I have learned not to take anything for granted. I am not fat by the way! Been here in Japan much too long to be fat....!

Unless one sees things from others perspectives....one becomes fat and wonders why the rest of the world hates America. But that is another topic.

People just have to live where the money is. And the money aint in Zimbabwe.....

I have learned after 911 that just because the law says not to do something....you have to do it anyway. Just to keep food in your mouth and stay alive.

There are many reasons why people live in other countries unlawfully. The main reason is food, water, money, hot women with the tightest tops on...oops....no...thats just me day dreaming.....sorry!

Actually Zimbabwe is a great example.
I'm friends with a large Zimbabwe family living here in Japan. Many times they have remarked how easy it is to live in Japan compared to the States. Things like being busted for DWB (Driving While Black) are hardly an issue in Japan compared to their student days in the States. Here in Japan, "nice" white collar jobs like English teaching are available whereas in the States they said that was impossible.

Besides, J-Immigration is a joke. Hardly any illegals ever get caught... if they did the sex industy would grind to halt (and the GDP would drop 8-15%).

I am white ( Italian Swedish American from the Northern part of Ohio ) and I grew up hating black people.

Guess what? It was all taught to me that I should hate black people.

When I moved out of my small town, I had black girlfriends, brown girlfriends, blue girlfriends, and even regular guy friends who were not white. I lived in Hawaii. Multicultural for sure.....!

My point....hate for race is taught to us when we are young.

Considering the really wild (but often true) stories of internet detectives tracking people over the web for crimes, I can't what would possibly possess anyone who "is" in Japan illegally to proclaim it here. There's no upside. No one's going to say, "you rock, go illegal dude!" and no one's going to offer you a job, "finally! I've been looking for an illegal dude in Japan to hire." So, if someone, a noted regular on this site, claims illegal status I'll be amazed.

But if I were from Zimbabwe, I would go work illegally in Europe or in the US...but not in Japan.

Actually, that's something I always wondered about too. When I came to japan and saw so many africans I was like, "what the fuck is going here??" Japan is just too far away from africa to be a logical place for africans to go to for illegal immigration. Even with the explanation of better treatment than in the u.s., it still seems strange to me that there are so many africans in japan. But, if what Taro says is true, and I believe his master gaijin status, then lax immigration policy is probably the explanation. I just don't buy that. You'd be surprised at who "hates" blacks.. could be the college professor you just talked to. Could be the lawyer that defended you in court. Could be the doctor that just performed open heart surgery on you.. The uneducated white people are just the only ones stupid or brave (however you look at it) enough to speak their mind openly.

And I grew up in a midwestern town, but I wasn't taught to hate anyone. More or less I was taught stereotypical views of blacks, latinos, and even asians. It wasn't hate them, it was more or less, make fun of them, fear them, or discriminate against them.. not hate..

I don't think, unless you grew up in a KKK organization or something of that nature, that you are taught to hate them.. maybe segregate from them, treat them unfairly, but not hate.

My parents never said hate niggers.. or anything like that.. mostly what they said is blacks can't be trusted, just turn on the news, you see it all the time, stealing, killing, raping, etc... And then they'd point out look who is in prison.. blacks. Look at their neighborhoods (the ghettos), see what slum and filth they live in, etc... they can't even live in peace with one another (bloods and crypts) so how in the hell can we live in peace with them..

That was the kind of thing I was exposed to.. and of course all of that has merit, but it is a twisted merit that is biased and slanted toward opposing minorities. And some would say that the issues are based on a long going discriminatory factor.. that blacks are struggling because of the effects of slavery etc..

I often wonder what life would be like for blacks had slavery not existed. I think most of them would still be living in Africa, perhaps in Zimbabwe, Zaire, South Africa, or some other Gold Coast or Congo area.. They certainly wouldn't be in America as predominantly as they are now. America most likely, especially in the south, wouldn't have been as developed, history certainly would have changed. I don't think the race issue would be as bad in America as it is today. Perhaps we'd discriminate based on our ancestry more than anything.. I think discrimination is in our blood and in fact is a normal natural way to improve the survival of the group... not too sure about that but I think it is a possibility.

And to be flatly honest, gays were hated more in my family than anyone else. To be gay was a sin of all sins.. I think my father would have killed me if I told him I was gay..

And you can rest assured that black, hispanic, and asian families grow up teaching their children things too.. similar to what I experienced. Like you can't trust whites. Whites have all the power. They are devils. Etc... Don't let the facade of being a minority fool you into thinking minorities cannot discriminate.. I have seen it first hand.

And it is not a White vs. Minority thing either. It is a group versus group issue. And only when two groups can form an alliance to oppose a larger group do the united we stand views come out...

It's all about everyone getting their slice of the pie..

You might have mentioned this before, but how long have you stayed in Japan? Although I believe things are worsening in the States, I still feel there are more diversified sources for news than here in Japan. Can't you watch PBS, BET or some Spanish channel to get a different perspective?
