Asakusa Station To Get Retro Re-Fit

Asakusa Station Building was built in 1931 in a neo-renaissance style but remodelled in 1974 to look as it does in the above photo. Tobu Railway is now proposing to restore some of its former glory, and has released the image below. Work should be completed by Spring next year.

[floatr]Image[/floatr]It's not a complete return to the original design which you can see in the photo on the right. For instance, the clock was on the face of the building rather than a clock tower.

The 1974 work is a very impressive piece of uglification. Did Japan build aqnything in the 1970's that wasn't an eyesore?

Did anyone build anything in the 1970's that wasn't an eyesore?
Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

That's the spirit that architect Tadao Ando thinks is lacking in today's youth.
I have a blog. Last update: August 18, 2013.
