We didn't get our blackout this morning, but it looks like the plan is definitely going into effect from tomorrow. Anyone have an idea when JR is going to go into effect?

Does your friend know about the disaster emergency message service?....while it is unlikely to be of much use in the short term, given the massive destruction in the region and its limitation to land lines only, it may useful to folks who make their way out of the tsunami impacted areas.

Fuck, sorry to hear. This too is gonna pass tho it doesn't seem like it now. Thanks FGLurker for the yokohammer comment but still worried. Anybody else out there up northeast who posts on fuckedgaijin? Any news?

Until he retracts and apologizes for that whale is most definitely back on the menu. I was watching the list of dead last night scroll across the top of the TV screen, is he trying to imply the death of a 4 year old girl and her 27 year old mother was divine retribution for whaling?

He hasn't even got the balls to come out and say it clearly. Racist cvnt.

There's a restaurant right next to 109 in Shibuya that specializes in Mr Watson's clients, why doesn't he come to Japan and read his poem outside?

We just had the broadcast truck go through the neighbourhood saying that power will be out from 4:50 pm today (Yokohama). They said group 1, but I thought this was group 2, seems no one knows what is going on.

My mate recieved a call from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Canberra on Friday as he initially lived in Sendai when he came to Japan years ago. They asked him for info on any other Aussies he knew living in the area (Shikoku) and he gave them my name (which they knew apparently) and another mate. So today I decide to give the consulate in Osaka a call and make sure my contact details are up to date in case everything goes tits up. Small chance but just want to get my ducks in a row. Anyway I ring up and get a message "We're closed because of a public holiday.......in Australia".........fuck me dead! Here's me thinking it was the Japanese who were totally inflexible and unable to bend the rules.

At least they are not closed -BECAUSE- of the crisis...

As for my source, he is expat insider at Shubu Electric on the trading side. And I sure trust him to leave without even packing if thing gets real. As long as he's still busy with philipine hookers and cheap booze i'm not even closing my windows...

That I could understand, if they were closed cos all the staff have gone up to the embassy in Tokyo to help out. But a public holiday, are these pricks for real?

The Australian government routinely evacuates Australians from danger zones. They evacuated thousands from Lebanon in the war a few years back. I'd expect any Western government would do the same. Fair point though, they reckon there might be up to 11,000 Aussies in Japan so you'd have to think there'd be 20 times as many Yanks, Kiwis, Poms etc so it'd be a logistical nightmare.

Nah, it's the government. Not inflexible, they just don't give a fuck.

At least you guys have a consulate here. The Canadian government (fuck 'em all!) closed up shop and left.

Yeah but for company sending expat in Japan, between bringing people home for few forced vacations days and the risk to be sued into oblivion in case they took the risk to expose their worker to nuclear accident risk for no reason... You don't need to think twice... especially since nothing work normally these days...

EDIT: false shindo 4 alarm for Nagoya, glitch in the Docomo warning system it seems... Between no alarm and false alarm... the keitai alert system need a fracking makeover...

All the Jappy people around me are laughing about Korea's rescue response claims. They're touting themselves at the first country to send rescue aid. (forgetting all the US military rescue here and in Korea? or they just don't count?) Big claims, makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy until you see they only sent over 3 people and 2 dogs...you can imagine what kinds of jokes result from Koreans and dogs.
