From Sega.com
Attention Dreamcast Gamers - important news regarding online gaming services!

As of October 2003, Phantasy Star Online and Phantasy Star Online ver. 2 will be taken offline. There will be no Dreamcast games available for online play after this time.

We hope you enjoyed our online gaming services that were extended six months beyond the original shutdown date. Thank you for supporting Dreamcast online gaming!

You know, the Dreamcast was and is one of my favorite systems. Simple, fast, good games (for a while), I don't know why it never really took off in the U.S.....

Sega burned too many bridges with the Saturn, for one. Sony was well on its way to Juggernaut status, and a lot of people were willing to wait a year for the PS2, rather than gamble on another Sega console. Sad, really. It had every reason to succeed, but there just wasn't enough faith in it.

At least Sega's still around and making games. Heck, they even posted a profit one quarter this year. :)
