I've lost my passport...I wonder whether a deathly pallor, awful teeth, constant whining, spitting out words like "cor blimey," "naffing," "bollocks" and confessing to tying a hanky around my head while I sunbathe on stony beaches in "barmy" 11-degree Celsisus temperatures will suffice to get some?
Mind you, with more Paddy in my blood than the average Japanese, I probably shouldn't fancy my chances...., but I suppose a few iodine pills is a fair exchange for centuries of brutal oppression...

Underwear with picshure of Jeremy Clarkson should suffice... or if not broken your commemorative plate with the painting of Lady Die and Prince Charles...

Yes, in Tokyo, there was quite a queue but free coffee at the end of it, and the staff are quite pleasant.

The exact isotopes detected were:

Te-132
I-131

Do you know the concentrations of each? The Tellurium, I-131, I-132, I-133 have a relatively short half-life, but the caesium ones are much longer. From the Kyodo news it was listed in megabecquerel per square kilometer (is that a common way to express it?), but it failed to mention where in the water supply it was found.

With the rains tomorrow I expect a small spike in caesium in the water supply as all of the radioactive dust on the buildings gets washed away.

Also, I'd suggest holding off on the horensou (spinach) until the GOJ announces an inspection plan tomorrow and its effective date. From Wikipedia, becquerels are explained in counts per second of radioactive emissions, so Ibaraki spinach is producing counts of 24,000 counts per second. :puke:

Here's the data. Sorry, you'll have to align tables for raw value. This is surface (ground) radioactivity using a 1 x 1.5 vinyl sheet for collection. This would be per hour at the times shown.

Te-132 I-131 I-132 I-133 Cs-134 Cs-137
3.2 day 8.0 day 2.3 hour 21 hour 2.1 year 30 year < half life
Date Radioactivity (Bq)
March 15, 9:20 - 10:20 24 124 38 16 4 4
March 15, 13:20 - 14:20 18 35 18 4 3 2
March 16, 13:20 - 14:20 8 23 7 1 2 2
March 17, 13:20 - 14:20 2 6 1 0 0 0
March 18, 13:20 - 14:20 0 1 0 0 0 0
March 19, 13:20 - 14:20 1 2 0 0 0 0
March 20, 13:20 - 14:20 4 51 6 0 3 6

(I'm ignoring the part where you say you won't post again, just in-case you change your mind)

Are these numbers for Tokyo? Weird how the numbers jumped up again today... is that from the change in wind direction?

If nothing goes wrong with the Fukushima daiichi tomorrow, I'll bet we'll see much lower numbers after the heavy rain starts.

He was mildly red when he posted that so I greened him one. Apparently the number of posts you have has a big impact on the number of green dots you give or take from someone 'cause he went from one or two red dots to a bunch of green ones after that.

He doesn't seem like a bad guy, hope he comes back and sticks around.

CAUTION: Medical authorities warn that consumption of any spinach produced in prefectures directly affected by the March 11 Great Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake, Tsunami, Nuclear Disaster are liable to suffer symptoms such as baldness, distortion of the oral cavity, speech impediments and abnormal swelling of the forearms and calves.

I have no idea if that was ever translated to French or shown in France. If not then there isn't much chance of figuring it out...

It could be even worse, adaptated translation. In "Demolition man"(*), Bullock is all-a-excited when she and Stallone get invited for an official diner... It seems to be Taco Bell in the US version, while it was Pizza Hut in the French one... since we don't have or know what Taco Bell is...

(*) Always found it to be much deeper than advertised, but the French pseudo-intelligentia put it in the "derp-herp meathead" movies... because you know... it's american... so it can't be smart and stuff like them Jerry Lewis movies... same goes with Rambo 1...

that's to say... teah... I'll gretefully take the hint kthxbye

Rain should suppress the radiation far away from the Fukushima plant because the radioactive material would be carried down by the precipitation somewhere closer to the plant. However, the numbers have increased today due to the change in wind direction. So I blamed Wikipedia instead of blaming my own poor logic. :smashpc:

"One upscale Japanese restaurant in Taiwan is not taking any risks. An eatery called Peony in Taipei's business and financial district is offering a radiation gauge to its diners, Reuters reported.

"I can give my customers a promise: If you eat at Peony I guarantee that everything you get will be the safest and the best," manager Catherine Yang told Reuters."

I've read so much technical stuff in the past few weeks about radioactive contamination but, I'm still pretty confused.
I wonder if anyone can answer a question that's been nagging me.
If I'm living and working on a farm producing spinach which has become contaminated by radiation and I have eaten the contaminated spinach, have I now got a double dose of contamination?
Or even a triple dose, skin, lung, and stomach?

Damn it was so much easier in this country when the only dose you had to worry about was the clap.

AFAIK, inhalation and ingestion of radioiodine in dangerous quantities slightly increases the change of thyroid-related diseases in people under the age of 30. Are you worried about Cranky Jr.?

The Doc at the Potassium Iodine give away said 40, or under. Since I got kids older than that and Cranky's Grand children are in that range, we probably don't have to worry....
