Captain Japan told me to do that the newish Shangri-La Hotel in Marunouchi is not taking any new bookings, plans to close in April and has already moved key staff to West Japan. They hope to restart operations but it isn't clear what conditions need to be satisfied for them to do so.

Whoa, now things are getting really dire! The Tokyo Shangri-La has been a favorite of my well-heeled LA friends - the rooms are larger than many (most?) Tokyoites' condos.

It looks like it's a temporary closure until things settle down. Other hotels have closed bars and/or restaurants as well.
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

A friend works at a Japanese consulate and they have told me the number of visa applications being cancelled is huge - the vast majority of applications in the system are being cancelled. The number of new visa applications is in the single figures per day at the moment.

Tokyo Shangri-La

What a shame. Wasn't that Jack's exclusive spot to wine and dine the Japanese ladies?
