Japan's files protest over Cinderella's apple?

Japan files protest over newspaper cartoon about nuke emergency :violin:
TOKYO Mainichi Daily News (Kyodo) April 22, 2011 --Japan's Consulate General in New York lodged a protest with New York Times Co. on Thursday for publishing a cartoon in which Snow White, carrying a newspaper with the headline "Japan nuclear radiation," asks an old woman offering an apple if she comes from Japan.
The consulate said that since the cartoon refers to a story in Grimm's Fairy Tales in which Snow White falls into a stupor after biting a poisoned apple, it may stir up what the consulate called unfounded anxieties over the safety of foods from Japan...more...

INCREDIBLE, they understood the reference...

now, onto step two, yes, it was on purpose, and your definition of 'unfounded' seems quite different from what the rest of the world think...

1) The Japanese have this attitude that with just the one presentation they're giving they can dispel everyone's questions.

2) That even assuming the presentation is factual and truthful, the Fukushima situation is still out of control and changing by the day. And the Japanese gov has not been coming out with immediate full disclosure on the issue as it should, so what's the value of the presentation say, after next week, after all?

What sort of food does Japan export in any great volumes? Pardon my ignorance, but Japan has never struck me as one of the world's major food suppliers. I have always thought of Japan as a major importer of food.

Out of interest, what sort of contribution to the economy are food exports?

I was surprised to learn GG, that Japan exports a lot of fish products to Europe, and here in Aomori, apples, and nagia imo are exported all over. The apples main market is Taiwan, China and Russia. My friend works for an export company and said that in China Japanese apples are a real luxury item, or they were, in the past.

Hinsight is 20/20 but with all the evidence that has surfaced these last few weeks, it is now clear the Japanese were simply too corrupt and dishonest to handle nuclear power, more specifically nuclear power right next to seismically very active fault lines: security tests were falsified, reactor designs were obsolete and not secure enough to begin with, sites did not have redundant safety systems, the Gov. was in bed with Tepco instead of keeping tabs on them and so on.

Now they reap the (radioactive) whirlwind and we're supposed to buy their (slightly) contaminated crap just to be "considerate" with them?

Fuck that. I don't want ANY of their shit near my table, and I won't bother debating how much radiation is or is not "safe". I hope the destruction of their fish, dairy, farming and agriculture industries is lesson enough to punish their negligent arrogance.

Point is, I don't want ANY of their foodstuffs anymore so I'll buy from some place where I don't have to worry how much radiation is or is not "safe".

I guess that means you don't live in Japan.

All of Japan is on a fault line.

The sites do have redundant security systems.
They just did not have secured power lines, or back-up generator capability. The Fukushima facility was designed by General Electric and in case you weren't aware of it. the site did manage to survive a 9.1 earthquake. It was the Tsunami destroying the power for the facility and it's back up that was/is the problem. Also, I would be interested in what you mean by the government "keeping tabs" on Tepco.

Now they reap the (radioactive) whirlwind and we're supposed to buy their (slightly) contaminated crap just to be "considerate" with them?

Well, that's a shame. If you'd like I will come over and shit on your table. That may be more palatable for you.

I hope the destruction of their fish, dairy, farming and agriculture industries is lesson enough to punish their negligent arrogance.

I find your thinking of equal arrogance, so fuck off and stay out of Japan, or I'll sic Take-chan on ya!

For real?

While Japan doesn't export on the scale of other major exporters, it does export at the quality high end where the real profits are made.
