So that's what Gaijin think of Japan.

Postby Steve Bildermann » Wed Sep 03, 2003 4:46 pm

This essay describes our adventures in exotic Japan in May 2001. It focuses on the fascinating cultural aspects of Japan, sometimes at the expense of routine descriptions of this attraction or that. Frequent sidebars delve into various things Japanes;subjects as diverse as currency, language, clothing, the geisha subculture, and proper names. (The sidebars on the Japanese language are hyperlinked together so that you can navigate through them;ignoring the rest of the material;if you're particularly interested.) Selected photographs from our set of 700 or so appear throughout the site. We learned not only that standard preconceived notions are untrue, but also that authoritative "corrections" of those notions are often equally untrue!

Warning lots and lots of rambling prose ahead

Closing thoughts
...As techno-sardines, the Japanese live masterfully orchestrated lives. They could probably live out all their days in the same five square blocks: as soon as they die, having overdosed on mediocre-quality sushi procured from the convenience mart around the corner, they will be interred in that tiny cemetery right next door to their 20-story condominium tower, only blocks from the clatter and din of the shinkansen...

Perhaps the worst patronizing drivel I've ever laid my eyes on.

Sheeeeeee-it. I think this is my 2nd cousin in-law!
If so, he's literally, "horse's ass ex-field son".
He's a savant ---- a "train spotter" and knows every single train time on the East Coast "dia" (common katakana contraction for "diagram schedule" used by trainyard switchmen).

Ohhhhh... my brain hurts just thinking of the family jokes told about him.

Then again, I think Steve B. is having his fun with us and made the whole thing up.

Bruce says: "I find it astonishing that such a modern culture can flourish using a pictographic system so utterly primitive;"milk" , for example, being composed of a mother's hand clutching her infant to her breast;that it seems scarcely more advanced than the cave paintings of Altamira and Lascaux!)"
What a tosser. I will make sure I contact this clown next time I have a kanji question.

And people who post photos of toilets with tedious and badly written travellogues need help.

I can't wait for his Thailand trip. "The Thais are such a nice, cute people, however Bangkok is a horrible place of traffic and dirty bars and the food is so spicey that Cheryl cried and sweated alot! However, I am an expert in Sanskrit, so I can read the menues. Blahbidy blah blah.."

It would be too easy to keep ripping into this guy.. so I will stop.

one question!

Is he as smart, as he is claiming to be?O_o

I mean, I tried to read his Japanese essay. But, the misspelling lots of easy words, and making grammatical mistakes:that only college students make. Really got to me, I'm even beginning to wonder if he is as smart as he is claiming to be.O_O

So, in the end...I just stoped reading his essay. I liked the pictures a lot better, than the whole essay.

I mean, he does have a lot of degrees. If he has so many degrees. Why on earth wasn't he able to spell "helpless" correctlyt??O_o

No, they're two ugly America people.

yeah, bot they did say something about going to israel. To look at their roots.^_^

Thanks for pointing that out.LOL

This guy Bruce is such a dickhead. How the fuck can anybody have that much to say about a place after only a week? He doesn't know shit about Japan. He calls his week a 'marathon tour'. I try not to flame but Jesus, what an ass! He's not even a gaijin at all. He's just a tourist. He's not even a good tourist. Bruce, you need a beatdown!

These people are so dorky, as we will find out later on. What they think is cool either was cool thirty years ago at home or was never cool to begin with.

Did you see this guy's pic? And he's calling the Japanese 'dorky'.

Since he is in the OpSec biz and does firewall consulting, Internet security consulting, NSA consulting," he OUGHT TO have noticed his "referer logs" of his server by now, he, he. Maybe if I try farquing with his server, he might notice these logs that show where people came to his site from.

Check out his Mom's travels....

OTOH, considering these technical skills are listed on his resume right before "Japanese (reading)", I'm not so sure he's even heard of referer logs. I think the only thing he's going to notice is the inside of his rear end, where his head is firmly implanted. :)

Born in 1963, that makes him 40ish.. Or 38 in his pictures. He might not be a real looker, but he looks pretty young for his age.

I'll bet he hasn't had to do a day of work heavy in labor in his life. Lucky guy really..

If only i could get a cabby who would speed without prompting!! Little bitch doesn't know how lucky he is!

And we have a term for guys like this who went to college and got all sorts of cert and crap: Paper MCSE's. He went to classes, read study guides covering the exact topics of the test and then took said tests. Thus, a cert with no experience. But, that is my opinion, not hard fact. I myself have been through said classes. Haven't taken any tests cause I don't really KNOW this stuff yet. (setting up test lab in 2 weeks though to study more)

This guy is a blowhard and a braggart. He put up this site solely for his own personal gratification and ego boost. If he is really in such a business (and took it seriously) he would never put such a thing up where possible business associates could see and be offended by it. Imbecile. Fool. BAKA!

Speaking of tech stuff

Postby cstaylor » Thu Sep 04, 2003 10:14 pm

The two most valuable things I learned in school:
[1] For most programmers that you will meet, 1X10=1 (one year of experience used over 10 years = 1 year of experience)
[2] All programs can be simplied to: read data in, process data, write data out.

All other problems can be massaged down to either rule 1 or rule 2.
