Most people think it's from a stealthisized version of the UH-60 Blackhawk (certainly looks like it to me). Apparently some are now worried bits and pieces of the destroyed wreckage are now finding their way to China, possibly enabling them to further improve their stealth technology.

Yeah, there's plenty of rendition of a stealth UH60 around by now, looks much more credible than a drone.

(but I still remember of a stealth drone with this global shape, boeing maybe... will have to dumpster dive the interwab)

No big firefight afterall

The thot plickens.

The Americans who raided Osama bin Laden's lair met far less resistance than the Obama administration described in the aftermath. The commandos encountered gunshots from only one man, whom they quickly killed, before sweeping the house and shooting others, who were unarmed, a senior defense official said in the latest account.

In Thursday's revised telling, the Navy SEALs mounted a precision, floor-by-floor operation to find the al-Qaida leader and his protectors — but without the prolonged and intense firefight that officials had described for several days.

Meh, not really. It says the people they killed were armed. Them not being able to get a shot off means the SEAL's did a damn good job.

Really?

The commandos encountered gunshots from only one man, whom they quickly killed, before sweeping the house and shooting others, who were unarmed

Anyway, I wasn't critisizing SEAL Team Six. The guys they shot may have been unarmed but running for their guns which I'm sure they had handy. It was more the government's typical BS exaggeration of what went down in a military operation that I don't like.

Pretty soon a new very different narrative will come out - courtesy of the passively-vengeful Pakistanis and Osama bin Laden's surviving kin. They will most likely provide stories that will simultaneously warm the hearts of fanatical followers of Al Qaeda and boil their blood. How a pious heroic and unarmed Osama bin Laden raised his arms outstretched to protect the lives of his children and how the ruthless American savages they called "SEALs" cruelly stomped on the bin Laden family's precious copy of the Koran.

That doesn't make it right. It also adds fuel to the fire for conspiracy theorists. In this case I don't think it was so bad though. Not like what they did with the Pat Tillman story. That was fucking disgusting.

Seriously... it was not a time for subtlety... If the ops screwed Obama would have been crucified... Just lucky they didn't turn the whole neighbourghood into a glass parking lot...

Keeping him alive for trial would just have made an excuse for more shit to be blown unless he was freed... no place for subtlety here either...

Now, not showing him dead... might not have been the best way to have people stfu...

I thought the justification of not wanting to provide certain people with fresh and new propaganda material was a pretty damn good one. Not releasing the pictures doesn't mean he's any less dead....
Besides, if anyone of his sympathizers doesn't believe he's dead they can just pick up the phone and try to get in touch with him can't they?

Not sure how they confirmed is was al Qaida but ...

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Fri May 06, 2011 10:40 pm

Al-Qaida confirms Osama bin Laden's death

Al-Qaida on Friday confirmed the killing of Osama bin Laden and warned of retaliation, saying Americans' "happiness will turn to sadness."

The confirmation came in an Internet statement posted on militant websites, signed by "the general leadership" of al-Qaida. The announcement opens the way for the group to name a successor to bin Laden. His deputy Ayman al-Zawahri is now the most prominent figure in the group and is a very likely contender to take his place.

The statement, dated May 3, was the first by the terror network since bin Laden was killed Monday by U.S. commandos in a raid on his hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The statement's authenticity could not be independently confirmed, but it was posted on websites where the group traditionally puts out its messages.

"The blood of the holy warrior sheik, Osama bin Laden, God bless him, is too precious to us and to all Muslims to go in vain," the statement said. "We will remain, God willing, a curse chasing the Americans and their agents, following them outside and inside their countries."

"Soon, God willing, their happiness will turn to sadness," it said, "their blood will be mingled with their tears."

-snip-

The writers of the statement appeared unaware of the announcement by American officials that bin Laden's body had been buried at sea. The statement warned against mishandling or mistreating bin Laden's body and demanded that be handed over to his family, saying "any harm (to the body) will open more doors of evil, and there will be no one to blame but yourselves."

This is the best day for U.S. and the world in general, but for anyone to think that capturing and bringing OBL back alive would have been a moral thing to do, not to mention, bringing him to trail, having tax payers shell out millions of wasted dollars on this thrash would have been the ultimate insult! He got what he, hope he doesn't give the sharks and crabs indigestion. Good riddance!

According to this news it looks as if the Jack Bauer approach may have payed off. With all the information coming out Pakistan may have no choice but to continue to support a US presence at least until al-Qaida cells have been wiped out in their country.
Source: Bin Laden directing al-Qaida figures
For its part, the U.S. has already launched at least one drone strike into Pakistan in the days since bin Laden was killed, and there is no suggestion those will be curtailed at all.
The strikes are largely carried out by CIA drones, and the expectation is that they will continue in the coming days as U.S. military and intelligence officials try to take quick advantage of the data they swept up in the raid before insurgents have a chance to change plans or locations.

Brooklyn Hasidic paper Der Zeitung cuts Sec. of State Hillary Clinton out of Bin Laden raid photo

A Hasidic newspaper said it was following Jewish modesty laws when it printed a Situation Room photo that was doctored to remove Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and a second female White House staffer.

The Brooklyn-based Der Zeitung sparked Internet outcry after it published the now iconic photo Friday showing only men present to monitor the daring 40-minute Navy SEALs raid that killed Osama Bin Laden.

National Security team member Audrey Tomason was also scrubbed from the image.

The ultra-Orthodox Der Zeitung released a statement Monday apologizing if the edited image "was seen as offensive," but said it was following Jewish modesty laws when it made the decision to delete Clinton and Tomason from historical record.

-snip-

"Because of laws of modesty, we are not allowed to publish pictures of women, and we regret if this gives an impression of disparaging to women, which is certainly never our intention," the Der Zeitung statement said.

Ever hear of Yiddish?

a High German language of Ashkenazi Jewish origin, spoken throughout the world. It developed as a fusion of German dialects with Hebrew, Aramaic, Slavic languages and traces of Romance languages.[2][3] It is written in the Hebrew alphabet.
