Aldous Snow Denied Entry

Postby Mike Oxlong » Sun May 22, 2011 7:58 pm

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Katy Perry: My husband Russell Brand just got deported from Japan!

Katy Perry is astonished that Russell Brand has been kicked out of Japan.

The comedian, 35, who used to be a heroin addict, has been deported for old drug convictions...

It seems Paris Hilton isn't the only celebrity (or, celebutard in her case) that is banned from Japan.
But, if enough time passes, or you're famous enough, they might let you back in (in the case of the Rolling Stones).

If you want people to come to your country, you can't do dumb stuff like this.

I could see if he had priors IN Japan, or had done something bad in country.

I get the feeling that Japan targets high profile drug offenders occasionally to show the world that it will not be fucked around with when it comes to hard drugs.
Anyway, bad luck for Russell Brand, who I doubt anybody in Japan really gives a fuck about anyway, but I hope he keeps up with NA and stays clean. Keep working it!

It is utterly impossible to understand from the gadawful crap writing in the huffington post as to whether he was refused admission or deported.

Can anybody clarigy that for me.

The Bobby Fischer sage sort of made me a connaisseur of the Japanese immigration proceedings when it comes to the mix of 'celebrities' +drugs +Japan. From Paul Macca to Hilton Paradise - I love them all....

Thanks

I'm afraid I can't credit for coining the word, but it is a gem.
Apparently, according to the gospel, it's not from celebrity + retard, but comes from celubutante (celebrity+debutante) + retard.

Wow, 10+ year old convictions? Daaayam, just a bit ridiculous....

Guess they're encouraging foreigners to play by Japanese rules, "What happens overseas stays overseas," and mark no convictions.

Actually, that is not quite correct Hair. They do use a lot of publicity with the celebs, but will block entry to anyone with a drug conviction regardless of whether, or not, they are high profile. If they find out, through visa application or LACs that you have been busted for something as simple as weed. No visa, or entry. People with such prior convictions, either in Japan, or elsewhere, must apply for a waiver, which they frequently grant, but without which, they ain't gonna let you in town....The USA is basically the same.

Probably. A good case in point is Paul McCartney, who does a lot of business requiring travel to Japan. He has to get a waiver every time he flies in and does so quite successfully. So it is easily doable, but most people are just not aware of the requirement.

Thanks. I kinda thought it was a catchy little number. I've been thinking of posting on the wall in my loo.....

I stand corrected.

Wonder what it's like Down Under? I guess the days when you had to have a prior are long gone now...

In the US, doesn't it have to be a felony conviction?

There is a block to list all felonies. Where I'm not sure about the present, in the immediate past, the forms used to include a separate block to denote any and all drug arrests, and it did say arrests, not convictions. Making a notation under that section would obviously put you into the system.

i, for one, am very glad they didn't let him in. there's plenty enough shaggy haired, unshaven, size 0 boys running around japan as it is. they don't need any more encouragement.

Just lucky I was not at home, I still need to snag a screen cap of that new WWII in HD Color series. There was this crazy scene with Nazis visiting Japan, surrounded by crowds of Japanese waving Japanese and Nazi flags. Saving that on my keitai for the next time some old drunk guy starts bitching about WWII ;)
