"No Foreigners" signs soon to appear in Holland

Postby davai-davai IV » Sat Dec 18, 2010 4:21 am

A ruling from the EU's top court could mark the end of the Netherlands' welcoming coffee-shop culture

.../...the free-wheeling dope days may soon be over for British visitors if the Netherlands' new centre-right coalition government has its way. Following growing complaints over rising crime in the country's border towns – and a string of recent drug-related shootings in the south – the Dutch government has signaled its intention to ban foreigners from buying cannabis altogether.

Tomorrow [THURS], following a request for advise from the Holland's highest court, the European Court of Justice will decide whether such a ban contravenes European law, where free trade rules forbid discriminating against purchasers on grounds of nationality.

Confident of a favourable verdict stating that drugs are not subject to the same rules as legal goods, Justice and Security Minister Ivo Opstelten has already announced a plan to turn the country's 700 coffeehouses into private members clubs, effectively making them out of bounds for foreigners.

We think it's about time our German, Belgian, French and British friends take it upon themselves to get cannabis legalized in their own countries so they no longer have to come to ours to get it. Sorry if that is a problem ;)

I think (and hope) they might make some exceptions for Amsterdam.

My guess is that if they do pass the ban, it'll get reversed within a couple of years when they see how much money they're losing.

i think it would be the smaller towns that some tourists go to to get cheaper prices and what not.

my friend lives like an hour away from amst. and says that whenever foreigners go to his town they smoke up all the weed cause the prices are not as high...

i would put up a no FG sign if they would smoke up all my weed... if i had any that is...

Losing what money? Most of the drug tourists stay in cheapest slums they can find, eat the cheapest food, and scare away the well-heeled tourist who do have money to spend. Only surprised it didn't happen ages ago.

Can't they sort of make a little island off the coast of Amsterdam where foreigners can go and get stoned and leave the rest of the country alone? I kinda remember someone doing something similar for the Dutch in the past, albeit for getting stoned....

I've got plenty of loaded friends that make hooker and dope runs to Amsterdam whenever they're in Europe. They probably won't go anymore if things change. Beside, blaming hash bars for the problem is fucking stupid. They might as well not let anyone drink alcohol either.

Just reading an article in the Miami Herald about alternatives to the war on drugs, and there was a bit about the Dutch in there...

Whether the alternative approaches work seems to depend on how they are carried out. In the Netherlands, where police ignore the peaceful consumption of illegal drugs, drug use and dealing are rising, according to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction. Five Dutch cities are implementing new restrictions on marijuana cafes after a wave of drug-related gang violence.

It's not going to work anyway.... if the tourists can't come here for their huff 'n puff anymore, there will just be a lot more dudes in pimped Audis and Mercs, rushing to deliver the quality dried seeds, resins and other produce to their home countries.

Guess I'm canceling my trip ...

Looks like it's not just a proposal anymore.

NY Daily News

Sorry, stoners.

The Dutch government said Friday that it will ban tourists from buying marijuana from the Netherlands' famed "coffee shops."

Under the new rules spearheaded by far-right political leaders, only Dutch citizens will be able to enter the stores, and they too will face tougher restrictions.

Resident patrons will be required to sign up for a one-year membership, and each shop will have a maximum of 1,500 members, according to a justice ministry spokesman.

I would tend to agree but do you think other governments will push for their citizens' right to smoke weed?

/MODE RABID RANTING ON:

The whole European Union thing is a scam turned into a clusterfuck. The whole union is all aboot company, trade and capitalism. the first name of that monster was European Community for Charcoal and Steel. Somehow during the constrution some populist prick realised that if you don't make it look like it's for the people it's not going to have a good press. So it slowly change it's name to European Economic comunity then European Union. They are bulshitting on a daily basis aboot people right and freedom and shit... But with the closing of some border inside EU member, and suspension of the Shengen space freedom of circulation right, the only thing still benefitting from this are the companies while nations are hand tied paying for a monster with more and more everyday a pan-european army instead of nationnal armies ready to protect... their own nation. I mean, we're aboot to share our aeronaval fleet with the british, basing Rafale M fighters on soon to be build next UK aircarrier.

WITH THE ENGLISH FFSAKE... I don't have the precise statistic but we have been longer at war with those guys than even against the krauts...

/END OF MADNESS...
